I'm thinking of getting a Zire but i don't know how good it is. So what are some features and y u like or or don't like it.

Yes, it honestly is. I purchased one myself approx. a week ago, and i love it.

But you must keep in mind, being one of the cheaper models, it doesn't have nearly as many features as say, a $300 model would have. The Zire doesn't have color, and not that much memory.

Some good things about the Zire... it is fully connectable to any pc, and you can use it to beam messages, software, addresses, and other information to other palm pilots, regardless of their model. I found it really easy to use the program that goes with it, and it is lightweight. It comes with rechargable batteries already inside, and all you have to do is plug it into an outlet and it will charge in a maximum of three hours.

So, to summarize that all up, if you are getting your first palm, or if you are only looking based solely on the utilitarian use of one, then the Zire is definitely worth your money.

A better buy would be the m105. Because of the Backlight and 8mb of memory insted of the 2mb the zire has. And it cost about the same.

if your consider the m105 vs. the zire the palm site has a great comparison sheet where u can compare the hardware and software specs side by side.
the key points for me were -
the m105 has more memory, and a better screen,
whereas the Zire has rechargable batteries, USB instead of serial, a newer OS, and is a little lighter (& smaller i think).
It also looks different than the typical palms, which I suppose could be a selling point.

being that i've never used the old OS or the m105, I can't really comment on which is better.
My only other comment is the zire is great, I think the OS is quite intuitive. My ONLY complaint is the non-backlit screen, however I may complain later about the memory. With original software packages and the OS there's 1.8 mb left for records and programs, I'm not sure how far this will go.
all in all I think the choice depends on what your going to be doing. I like my zire, although newer (and sleek looking) isn't always better.

Palm Zire - 2MB, no backlight, no cradle, no faceplates, 2 hard keys, rechargeable battery

Palm m105 - 8MB, backlight, cradle, faceplates, 4 hard keys, no rechargeable battery

You can also change the look of the m105 in a snap with different face plates.

The m105 is expandible and the zire is not.

I have a Zire and like it. It was/is 'my first Palm'. If I still like it by the end of the year I'll buy a hi end model and use the Palm for backup, holidays etc.

Buy the Zire for the size.
Buy the M series for the fuctionallity.

Remember the hot new Palm V (back in 1999) had only 2MB, and lots of people loved it.

It all depends what you need/want.

I recently ordered one with my new computer, and I love it! My only real complaint is the lack of a backlight. 1.8M may not seem like a lot, but I have installed 3 additional apps and I still have 1.3M free.

This is my first journey into PDA life, and so far Ilike it! I will get another PDA soon, probably A higher end model.

for $99, you can get a Palm i705, and it will do wireless internet, which none of the models mentioned in this thread will do

I personally just bought a Zire for $68 at amazon. They have a $25 instant rebate right now. ;-)

I knew going in that it was not expandable, that is doesn't have a backlight, and that you cannot load a bunch of software on it. I don't need that, however. What I was looking for is an inexpensive, portable way to carry all the information I require day to day. I love the concept of a Franklin-Covey planner, but the reality is that once I had everything in there that I needed, it was too much for me to lug around. I ended up using it less and less over the years.

I guess my point is that some of us don't care if it is bottom of the line. It is functional, period. When I need something else, the "better" models will be lower in price. Not all of us want internet access, email, and all the bells and whistles. I have no interest in adding games to my Zire, etc.

me too i just bought my zire and i'm still charging the batteries. I agree with what jafan said. i chose zire because all i need are the basic/classic functions of a PDA.

well, first off, the zire isn't $100- its $299. This isnt a bad price for the features it has though. Here are My thoughts, the camera resolution much to be excited about but its still a cool feature and the mp3 player is a nice touch- I'd say go for it if you can afford it.
