Newbie alert!
I cannot get my m130 to talk to my Nokia 8310 via the IR port.
All I want to do (currently) is write SMSs on my Palm and send them through my phone (saves using the phone keypad) but it won't talk to my phone.
I have downloaded the 8310 IR driver and installed and synched it. I have activated IR reception on the phone and done a test but it says "Unable to connect", the phone just sits there.
ANy ideas?
Also, after I get SMS working, what else can I do? I'm in the UK and have 3 ISPs, Freeserve, Onetel and Tiscali - can I use any of these with my Palm via my Nokia or my cradle, and if so how?
Sorry, a lot to ask I know but I got it for Xmas and am still struggling!

Try beaming an AddressBook entry to the phone. If that doesn't work, try beaming to another Palm.
Sounds like you already did the right things. My Prism has no problems sending or receiving phone numbers from my 3360. I don't know about SMS text.

To send numbers from the phone:
1) pick a name on the phone
2) go to menu - options/Send bus. card/Via infrared/All details
3) point the IR window at your m130. Remember to have Beam Receive ON on the m130.
To send from your m130:
1) on the phone, go to menu/infrared/select
1) pick an AddressBook entry on the m130
2) go to menu/Record/Beam Address and point the IR window at your phone.
Let me know if you discover anything else we can do between the 3360 and the Palm.

There is an SMS program that comes on the Bonus CD. It should get the job done.

Well, I can beam address book entries to the phone, but can't use SMS program that came free with palm.
Have just downloaded 2dphone, will see if that works.

2dphone crashed my PDA.
Removed it and re-installed SMS application and driver and it now half works!
It will talk to my 8310 and read all the messages off it (great!) but when sending SMS it says:
"Encountered an unknown Phone Services error"
I've tried with Message center number Auto and also the number in my phone but still the same.
Have I missed something?

OK solved it.
Needed to add country prefix to number (i.e. +44 in my case).
Downloaded SMS update from Palm also, which works around this.
Am happily SMSing and also now WAPing.
Deep deep joy! :D

Magpie68,
reading this post solved my SMS transmission to my 8210 (from my M515) i.e. the +44. Thanks. However, do you have problems receiving SMS from your phone, or is it possible? Any time I do a 'Check' I get an error message 'Unable to connect to phone - please check your settings and make sure the phone is ready'. IR is 'on' on phone and a test from my M515 says it can connect. I'm using Virgin Mobile. UK-based. Anyone any ideas? Thanks in advance

Bizarre.
I couldn't send but could check.
You can't now check but can send.
"Check" on Palm will only download messages in the phone's Inbox, make sure you have some!
Otherwise good luck. :)

I have had similar problems getting my m130 to talk to my nokia 8310, using the bundled SMS program that came on the CD with the Palm.
I've managed to resolve it, for some reason it won't connect the two devices via IR if you have a picture message sitting within your mobile phones inbox
Try this hope it helps.
