I am trying to connect my toshiba e740 to my laptop via the bluetooth connection to get internet access from my laptop.

The idea is to connect my bluetooth enabled Laptop to the internet via a landline then connect my PDA to the laptop via the bluetooth connection and browse the net that way.

Can something like this be done? and do I need any extra software?

Very easily.

Pair the laptop and PPC.

Connect your laptop to the internet as you normally would (modem, adsl, whatever).

Setup your Bluetooth adaptor on your PC to provide Serial Services and a Virtual com port.

Set Activesync to connect via the serial port you just setup. Make sure Internet connection passthru is enabled in Options.

Start an Activesync connection from the PPC over the Bluetooth connection. You should now be able to access web sites over Bluetooth.
