I'm not sure if I can help, but try installing the latest version of Palm Desktop over your existing one.
All your data should remain intact, but for security perform a HotSync and then copy the folder with your user name in the Palm directory to another location.

Palm Desktop is free. It is very easy to install. Just make sure you have a recent backup.

I do not have a recent backup.. I have not been able to hotsync for more than a month. This error message has been there ever since I tried the Alarm App on the palm desktop. Since then I cannot hotsync.
I know now that 5.0 is free but with my computer, depending on size, may take all night..
By the way, has anyone heard of Moonlight technologies??
I want to buy something off there but I can't without not knowing anything.. They sell stuff cheap..

I'm not sure if I understand the problem. If the issue is only with Palm Desktop, simply reinstall. Your data will still be on your handheld. The old version of your data will stay on the computer. When you HotSync with the new Palm Desktop, everything should work fine.
Am I missing something?
If you need to backup your data somehow, there are two ways that I can think of. First of all, HotSync at another computer. This would be a backup. Or, use a memory card and backup.
Good luck.

How fast is your internet connection? Nine megabytes would take a while for a dial-up connection.
If you know someone who has a broadband connection, they could help you by downloading Palm Desktop and then putting it on a CD.
Good luck with calling Gateway.

all I know is that we have the slowest, suckiest, most unreliable 56K connection anywhere.
I dont want to wait all night neither.
Thanks,

gateway didn't help me at all !!!!!!! The person hadn't even heard of the error. When she looked it up, She said it would take a long time to fix it. My dad wanted to know if we still had our warranty, (he thought we had an extended), She finally came back and told me that she could give me two numbers to run through it and it would only cost$1.95/minute... (Dad says:I don't think so.) So I'm think about calling Palm. I don't know how much they would be able to help but maybe they could give me help on how to hotsync...

P.S.- who knows they may even give me the reccomendation to install the new version...

what version of windows are you running?
as long as its not windows 95 and you have your windows CD there may be a fairly easy fix here. there is a program called sfc.exe (system file check) which may be able to help you out.

Windows ME
from what the guy said on the other post, he said i can copy the same file from a different computer and paste it.
I'll try that if i can't do the copy and paste from the other computer.
What do i do after i find this System File Check program????
Thanks,
PALMpilot_m125
P.S.-anyone heard of Moonlight Technologies????

you can copy the file from another pc, but that version of the file needs to be newer than the one you are having a problem with (probably) The version of the file on the PC's depends on what version of windows you have and what programs you have installed since windows (some programs update these files)
i've put a link in the other post that may help you.
