I've had my mc218 for a few weeks now, but I can not solve two problems:
1. I can not connect to the internet. Using Mike's guide from his brilliant website as well as Nokia's guide (same source) I have tried to connect using my 6210. Everytime, the message is the same: invalid username or password. I have checked the settings a million times, and they are correct.
2. Email sync should be easy right? Well, (feeling stupid to say this) I don't have a clue as to how you do it. I've got PsiWin 2.3.3 installed as well as email sync 1.15, but I can't figure it out! I must be missing something blatantly obvious.
Any help with these two problems would be greatly appreciated, because if you guys can't help, I'm lost.

They may appear correct but could possibly be corrupt. Delete the Username and Password, perform a 'soft' reset and enter the settings again. Also make sure that they are entered correctly as far as upper and lower case characters are concerned.

You are aware that you must sync with "Outlook" and not "Outlook Express"?

Mike,
First of all, thanks for your reply.
I will try your solution on the connection problem this evening, as the machine is at home. I will let you know of the results.
As for the sync issue, it is Outlook that I'm trying to sync with. Where would the option/command be? The "Synchronise now" option only seems to cover Agenda, Contacts, Tasks etc., but not emails.

You need to install "Email Synchronization" from the CD. It is on the PsiWin CD and I would assume it is also on the MC218's "EPOC Connect" CD?

It probably is, but I don't have the cd (I downloaded PsiWin 2.3.3 from Psion's website). However, in my "Add/Remove Programs" list, email sync 1.15 is there, i.e. already installed. Could it be that I missed installing something on the PC?
Thanks again for the help.

OK, if you open Windows Explorer and click on "My Psion", there should be the 'Synchronize' icon in the tool bar. Clicking this brings up a dialog box with the lines:

Outlook - Agenda - Contacts Program

Outlook/Exchange email - Microsoft Outlook Internet settings

If you don't already have this second line, click the 'New' button to set up a new synchronization.

Does that get you any further forward?

Mike, you were absolutely right on both issues!
The intenet connection problem has been solved with a soft reset. I can finally send messages.
You were also right about email sync, the second line was missing. Doh! This has also been solved now, but with a small nag: I have got various folders in my Outlook inbox, which were not transferred (created) in the MC218 inbox. Any ideas how I might fix this?
Many, many thanks for all your help

I don't actually use Outlook, although I have it installed in the PC with PsiWin so I can try to answer questions. I believe, though someone who actually uses it may correct me, that Email can only sync with messages in Outlook's default folder which will be "Inbox". Messages in sub-folders within Inbox will not be transferred.

This is correct. It will synchronize InBox, Sent Items, OutBox, and Drafts, but not subfolders of those folders. Unless somebody else knows something that I do not...

Oh, ok, that makes sense-although it is highly inconvnient.... Oh, well.
Once again, many thanks for the help.

I don't do sync myslef, but I have a vague memory that you can sync these subfolders by setting up a new sync item for each one...

Yes I also seem to recall reading something along these lines but couldn't find anything obvious in the sync setup options. I think you had to setup the full filepath to the folders to be sync'd but I will have to play about a bit more with it to see where (if) this can be done.

I tried setting up seperate sync items for multiple subfolders yesterday, but it does not work with e-mail. You can do it with calendar, contacts and tasks (and you can also create seperate sync item sto sync to different Agenda documents on the device), but e-mail sync simply asks you whether you want to sync the In Box only or the In Box, Sent Items, Out Box and Drafts as well. It does not appear to me to allow you to select subfolders of these items. But perhaps I missed something...

That said, I am using Outlook in internet only mode. Perhaps if it is connected to an Exchange server things are different, but I do not have an Exchange server installed against which to test this.

It does not appear to me to allow you to select subfolders of these items.I have been having another look at it today and I have to agree that, for email, there is no option to sync sub-folders.

Although not as experienced as you, I had a look last night and tried various things and reached the same conclusion: it simply can't be done. Ah, well not the end of the world.
Once again thanks a lot for your help and all the time you spent on my sometimes silly questions.
