I'm trying to download an .exe file onto a 128MB SD card. During hotsync I was getting a message saying I have no reader. I loaded palmreader but I still get a message saying I have no program to open it. In my quest to solve this problem, I downloaded filez but am not sure how to use this in getting my software on the card. BTW, this is the first thing I've tried to put on the card, and I downloaded palms patch for difficulties with the 128MB card.
I'm at my wits end here! Can anyone help?

What is the .exe file that you tried to put on your secure digital expansion card? I believe that .exe is not a supported file for Palm. Therefore, you have no program to open the .exe even if it is on the card. Hope that helps.

The program, called 5min clinical consult (5mcc), is one I bought and downloaded online from handango (which I found through the palm website). I checked both sites for support and e-mailed them. I paid for the product so I really want this to work.

You might try putting the program onto the Palm's main memory, then copy it onto the card using Palm's built-in Copy program.
It could be, though, that the program doesn't support memory cards yet. You might have to wait until it does, if that's the case.
Hope this helps.

The .exe file doesn't go into the Palm at all. It sounds like it's either a "self-extracting ZIP file" or an installer program that installs components on your computer and puts the Palm files in your Palm install tool. Run the .exe file on your computer and then check the Install tool to see if any files end up there. (I bet there will be at least a .prc, which is the reader program, and one or more .pdb files, which are databases.)
From there, you can "change destination" for the 5MCC files if you want them on the card. (My recommendation would be to put the .prc file on the card and put the .pdb file or files in the Palm's RAM.)

Yes, this makes a lot more sense. The .exe files are for computers not Palm PDAs. Try running the program on your computer and something is bound to happen.

(My recommendation would be to put the .prc file on the card and put the .pdb file or files in the Palm's RAM.) I would recomend the exact oposite the dbs are urualy what are going to plug up your memory, plus allot of apps need to be on the palm and have there own directory on the card for dbs. regardless I would look into either a manual or the faqs and you will probably find a pretty definite procedure to folow.

The only way it would be better (or even possible) to put the DBs on the card and the .prc in RAM and have it all work is if the app is "VFS-aware," in other words, if it supports having its DBs on an expansion card, or if you're using a program like PiDirect or MSMount to "trick" the program into thinking the DBs are in RAM. Also, I have yet to run across a .prc (the Palm "executable") that would NOT run from an expansion card.
Yes, the DBs usually are the memory hogs (especially with a program like ePocrates, where the .prc is a few hundred K and the DBs are about a meg), but unless you KNOW your program supports having its DBs on the card (or, like I mentioned, you use PiDirect or MSMount), I stand by my recommendation.
