hi,
My father-in-law has just asked me to look at the Palm 515 I bought him in November. Its dead! Doesnt do a thing, cant reset (tried in the cradle too), no green light when its in the cradle, no beeps, nothing.
We've kind of figured its got to go back but I just thought I'd check here first.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Rob

Yellow mellow all.
My guess would be it's the battery, did you purchase any kind of extended waranty with the m515? Have you tried to leave it in the cradle overnight to see if the juices replenish? Have you checked the cables to make sure they are all connected, etc.?
I know these sound elementary but sometimes the most obvious ones are overlooked.
Otherwise you need to get a new battery.
good luck

well, I hope we dont need the extended warranty as its just a few months old! I have tried the dead one in my cradle and still no joy. It was left charging overnight last night, apparently it came on briefly this morning....but nothing now. I've mailed Palm so I'll see what they say.

Hey Robdos,
I would leave it in the cradle and see what happens, make sure that once you get enough life sign out of the little bugger that it's not set on to "always stay on" in prefs. If it's not the battery problem, maybe it was just drained by virtue of use :)
Anyway, good luck with palm people, I would still follow up during the week by calling them if you don't get an email response. Keep us posted and good luck

Hi,
It went back for a replacement. Palm support impressive, even tho the machine was dead they were very helpful.
Thanks,

Glad to hear it. It was most likely a battery problem. I've heard of it happening before.

Even when a battery is nearly useless the green light will come on if the current is flowing to the cradle and to the Palm.
If the cradle was not defective and the wall plug AC converter was working then what you describe is most likely a failed circuit.

two cradles gave the same results, and my palm is fine so, Dr Mud, looks like your right again.

On a positive note: I recently recieved a refurbished Palm 515 direct from Palm and the screen is noticably brighter than my other two 515s. It also has much more intense colors.
On the Low back light setting it is brighter than my other 515s set on High. It is also much brighter on High that the new TT on it's highest setting.
Best wishes for a new unit that is really top notch.

lets hope thats the case! My father in-law demanded a new unit as his was only 6 weeks old - maybe he should have gone for the refurb....
I must admit he's the unluckiest computer user in the world!
Anyone out their know how I can sync my outlook express sent intems with my plam? It my only grievence with my 515 (Dr Mud I've already asked you...but hey I maybe lucky!)
thanks,
Rob

You might want to start a new thread about that for a better response.

Rob,
Consider calling Chapura's sales line or their tech support. They have a product called Pocket Mirror Professional that can sync subfolders from Outlook. I don't know if they intended it for the purpose you desire but perhaps you can manualy copy and paste the sent items into an Outlook folder that will sync with your Palm.

It sounds as if there is a bad battery or the unit has had a major power circuit failure. Consider calling Palm if under warranty.
Email gethightech.com for info on their repair process.
