I just bought a new 1330 from Sprint. Does anybody know how to use text messaging? Sprint is no help. I can't find a place anywhere on the palm or even on the web to send a text message from the 1330. Even when I get a text message from somebody else, it says to read it.....press go. There is no go butten! I can't even read the text messages that I do get. Help!

Just got finished spending over an hour (on two seperate calls) getting to Srint tier 2 support. The bottom line is that SMS does not work on either the Handspring Treo 300 or the Samsung I330.

They have no plans to fix the problem even though their marketing material specifically states that PCS messaging is available on these phones.

Make your own judgements but I am probably going to cancel service and go with Verizon and the 7135 (if SMS works on it).

iam a part time tech for pcs.
sprint has made a lot of empty promises to users of i300 i330 treo300 and 600.
Text Messaging will work through mobile.yahoo.com but that is it.
as for sprints wireless isp for blazer users they have done nothing
they have the capability of using this through your data transfer calls but choose not to let you know about this. (for the moment it is used as the auto dialer #2932)
dont plan on the text to work for maybe two years!

Yes, you should be able to do SMS through http://mobile.yahoo.com. However, to my knowledge, Yahoo! sends the messages.

What I previously had thought was that the Handspring Treo 300 could receive SMS messages but could not send them without activation and a third party program.

yes eric you are right.
but at the same time we are all wrong!@!!!!!!
sprint is currently working on a program (with its partner earthlink ) to remedy this situation!!!!
enough of use are voicing our opinions and they are starting to listen.
its about time!

I have had a Samsung I-300 for over a year. Messaging offered by Sprint PCS remains an "Art" form far from a science. It is complex to learn and very, very, very, very seldom ever works. Use your email capability on the phone, it works much better.
Sprint PCS messaging is some ones idea at Sprint, probably a PHD in Computer Science, who never uses their own product.
Generally Sprint does not even come close to their TV ad's as wireless delivery network.

Art form if science?
I have a B/S EE from UW-madison and also am a tech for sprint pcs.
I use the i300 and i500 and STILL cannot decypher what kind of Bull Chips sprint is telling everybody about sms or text messaging.
The only way i can get text messaging is if someone uses an outside link ( mobile.yahoo.com ) or etc; or uses my voicemail goes to option 2 upon my voicemail answering and sening directly through voicemail..

sprint says they are listening to consumers but i find that hard to belive..........

Lets Just Say Its Not!!!!!
you can read about all of the troubles throughout this and other forums.

Sprint PCS isnt lying when they say the phones have text messaging ( via any means) but they dont tell the truth as to its functionallity.

Kris,

What part of Sprint's messaging does not work?

1.) Send mail to i330_Phone_#@messaging.sprintpcs.com
2.) Sprint receives message.
3.) Figures out which phone the message is being sent to.
4.) Fowards the message to the phone.
5.) i330 Phone receives message.
6.) i330 Phone alerts.
7.) Happy i330 owner reads the message.

Where is the system broken? It seems to me if the messaging does not work we need to stop calling tech support and call a few lawers.

How about alerting the i330 when a new e-mail arrives at username@sprintpcs.com? How about Verizon?

Over the years i have lost thousands of messages with an sch-8500, an uproar, an i300 and continue to still have problems with a brand new i500. the yournumber@messaging.sprintpcs.com is EXTREMLEY UNRELIABLE.
as for the allerts for new email..your guess is as good as mine, I talk to over 300 customers daily for sprint pcs and am always asked this question. the only alert i get is when i check my inbox.

i am a pcs tech and have the ultimate service plan including just about everything, and i wont lie to you when i say i have problems everyday with any form of messaging including voicemail.

as for verizon, they have a full sms system in place and running. more than i can say for pcs.

Now, if I could carry the i330 over to Verison and have them turn it on. I really like(d) the phone and hate to give it up. I tried a pocketpc phone but was not impressed.

if you can wait till xmas the samsung i600 will be out, this will not be exclusive to pcs (can be used on several carriers except for alltel) but will not be palm, its pocket pc. it will also carry a very high price tag at $899?

I have to disagree with all of the users that say phonenumber@messaging.sprintpcs.com doesn't work. I have never missed a message utilizing this function. Now, I will say that I have not found a 2-way messaging program that works on this phone or system

If you want a usefull and very functional text messaging program for your palm phone, you can go to;

http://i500.nopdesign.com/apps/textmessenger11.zip

This program works everytime and will save you from having to go through the web site or your email program to send a text message from your phone.

Have fun.....

take a look at the posting dates on these....a lot has changed in over a year, and while the messaging system has gotten better it is still poor at best,

i have even quit working for sprint now as i am tired of all the runarounds they have given even the employees.

if i can suggest, take you service elsewhere if you want sms to work.

if you havent had any problems with the sms stick with it.

i havent gotten one yet without severe trouble or showing up several days later!

I have been using Scott's SMS application for the i330 ever since I bought my i330 and it has worked without a problem. Scott has even released an update to his SMS program when SprintPCS made changes to their text service. Everything works great.

If you need to send SMS messages to people outside of the SprintPCS service then you should use the program by PDAapps, though I am not sure if they have updated it to work on the new service yet.

this is unusual!

i have scotts i330 text messager on my i300 and still have problems with the servers.(all versions are the same for the i300/i330/t-300/t-600/i500, just the web site to retrive them is different)

scott does write excellent programs!!!! however he does also offer a disclaimer in the info portion about sprints sms servers.

kudos to scott for making our lives easier....to hell with sprint for screwing it all up to begin with!
