I was wondering if anyone can help. I've got a co-worker with an IPAQ 3835 who is having Syncing problems.

Here's the scoop...

He's hooked up via the serial plug on his cradle. He's always been able to sync (not that he always does) with his current configuration. He's not as an avid user of his IPAQ as I am.

When he tries to sync he gets the following on is IPAQ:
---------------------
Connect to
'115200 Default
Status:
Cancel Hide Status
---------------------
He tried updating is Active Sync software to the latest build and is now up to date and running 3.5 build 1176.

He changed the setting from '115200 to a lower setting (He has two '115200 setting on the IPAQ for some reason) and it starts to work but he gets the same above response on is IPAQ and then the following on is desktop:
--------------------
Microsoft Active Sync does not recognize the device that is trying to connect.

He's checked all cable connections, rebooted and reset the IPAQ several times.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks for the help.

Dan

Greetings;

Here is some Help, but first a comment. The Latest version of Activesync is actually 3.5 build 12007.

Here is a link to activesync connection troubleshooting.

ActiveSync Does Not Reconnect After You Log Off and Log On
The information in this article applies to:
Microsoft ActiveSync 3.5
SYMPTOMS
ActiveSync 3.5 or 3.5a does not automatically reconnect to a Pocket PC 2002 device that is connected on a Universal Serial Bus (USB) connection after you log off and then log back on to a Microsoft Windows 2000-based or Microsoft Windows XP-based computer. ActiveSync starts but does not connect, and you receive the following error message:
Microsoft ActiveSync does not recognize the device that is trying to connect. If it is a mobile device, click Retry to try connecting again. If it is not a mobile device, click Disconnect COM Port to stop Microsoft ActiveSync from looking for a device on this port. If you later want to connect to this COM port again, open ActiveSync and on the file menu, select Get Connected. If you disconnect the COM port or USB port in the ActiveSync connection settings (as the error message describes) and you then select the connection again in the ActiveSync connection settings, the connection is established again.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, disconnect and then reconnect the mobile device.
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

Been getting my fair share of that lately. Used to get all worked up until I took a long, deep breath & changed the connection to 19200, disconnected the iPaq, switched it off & reconnected. What happens in 95% of times is that the iPaq powers on & sync starts. If it doesn't.....take another deep breath.

Thank you both. Gives us a couple more things to try. Dan

I had a similar problem after performing a hard reset, it turned out that fact that the regional settings had defaulted back to the factory setting resulted in Activesync did not recognising my iPAQ.
