Here is a link to download a pdf of templates to cut your own screen protectors out of a laminate sheet. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Axim/files/AximScreenProtector-v2.pdf. It is a members only group, but has some great information as well.

Just take the sheet of heat bonded laminate and heat it with nothing in between. You get a nice clear durable screen protector. Cut and insert.

Happy bargain hunting!

I had to get an X ray today. I asked if they had any sheets of exposed film. The tech was quite willing to give me a sheet of clear xray film. Big one too!

I printed out the template, and cut out a couple of screen protectors.

Easy as pie. and they don't get any cheaper! Now, if it just works...hmmm.

Will give you an update when I actually GET my Axim. Should be here Monday.

Hi, thanks for the link. But I'm not able to print the template. Screen seems to freeze on me. Do U have any problem with it?

Well I have been refraining from submitting a diatribe about all the fuss of screen protectors, but I can't really hold back.

First some history... I have been using PDAs (loose term) for the past 5 years (the dell is my 5th) and have yet to see damage to a screen from TAPs, grafitti, note taking or otherwise. These things are built to withstand so many stikes with a stylus over a lifetime. If you plan to use ANYTHING with a point that can tap your screen, get a protector, but spend good money since usually the protectors cause more damage to the screen that a plastic point from a stylus.

Don't be fooled into thinking that a protector will save your screen, but don't think that you HAVE to buy one or you'll break it... It will survive but treat it with care, clean it regularly with a soft cloth (you should never need dampness unless you used a sticky protector...ooops) and it will last you until you feel you need that new one... about every 18 months for me...

Ok, two replies.

First, the pdf file. I did hava a little trouble the first time I tried to download, the pdf, but if you highlight the file and right click on the mouse choose save target as and pick your destination, it works just fine. Once I did that, printing was a breeze.

Also, I read a post on brighthand that said the pdf version might not be an accurate size for the screen (pdf conversion shrank the templates slightly). I won't know until Monday when I get my axim. I will post as soon as I can check.

Regarding Go2Duke. this is my first PDA. I have no idea what the durability of the screens or even how valuable a business tool this will be. I am also a cheap bastard! thats why i waited till thes little ego machines fill to less than 1/3 of what they cost a year ago. Makes sense to take care of it to the best of my ability. I certainly understand your position vis-a-vie the short life span of a handheld device, I am on my 12th cell phone having broken 3 and had sprints customer service send or give me 9 defective units in less than a year. since most of my breakage centered around the increadibly delicate screen my phone, I want to be hypercautions with the axim.

Seems like there are people damaging their screens after very little usage. I started this thread to spread the word about a cheaper alternative to the premades.

Thanks for the info and the caution about the screen protector doing damage.

Got my dell this afternoon! Finally! Put the screen saver on it while it was doing the initial charge. The pdf printed perfectly. I had to do some very minor triming and it fits great! The screensaver slips under the edges doesn't move around at all. Free is a pretty good price.
