This is a bit of everything... I have searched, but not found so here goes.

I have an ipaq 3970. Activesync at home, w98, via the cradle, no problems.

At work I have w95. I have both a UBS cable and a serial cable. I understand that USB is not supported by w95, hence the serial cable. I have activesync 3.1 installed, in line with MS's guidelines for using AS3.1 with w95.

Ok, here is the problem. It will not establish and maintain a connection to the ipaq. When I plug the ipaq in, activesync opens, the ipaq turns on as normal, they being trying to connect. The ipaq says it is connecting, then it drops the connection, giving me a message, saying 'This connection has been dropped' and advising me to read help in activesync.

I assume this is an activesync set up problem (or the PC), rather than the ipaq. I have been through the help, and all the menus and tried all sorts of things, to no avail. Any ideas?

Don't get me started on the ipaq and T68i problem...

I have a similar problem. At work we run Win NT which unfortunately does not support USB. I went out and bought a universal sync cable(serial and USB) and found that the activesync connection does not sync my 3970 and my PC. I'll be very interested if someone has some advice on how to solve this issue.

Is Windows Mobile 2003 compatible with ActiveSync 3.1?

Can you use 3.7?

I had the same problem and I am sorry to tell you that you will not be able to sync your PPC2002 PDA with Windows 95. You must update at least to Windows 98.

I have Win 2000 Professional at home and I can confirm that the sync between the serial connection betweem my 3970 and the PC does not work under activesync 3.7. It only works on the USB connection.

Must be something related to serial connections to 3970.

Has anyone ever succesfully synced their PC to their 3970 via a serial connection????

Powa,
Have you check to make sure that you have Activesync set-up to sync serially?

Start Activesync
File -> Connection Settings ->

Make sure the box next to "Allow serial cable or Infrared connection to this COM port:" is checked then make sure the right COM port and not the Infrared port is selected in the pull-down.

I'm able to sync a 5450 with a laptop running XP through a serial connection.

Rubberhead,

I am running activesync 3.7 and based on your instructions I could not see the option to setup the serial connection. It tries to sync automatically and shows that both my COM(1 and 2) ports are available.

I did not get an option to setup the serial connection.

Thanks....

It's there, unless the NT installation is different form the 9x and XP installations.

Try doing this without any device plugged into your computer.

You might have to double click the Activesync icon in the lower right tray to get the program up. Then select File -> Connection Settings...

See the attached bitmap for the Connection Settings screen. Check the box circled in red and make sure the pull down matches the COM port you are connected to.
