My PalmIIIc keeps resetting and loosing all the data stored on it. I was using it yesterday, worked normal, then I set it in the passenger seat of my car on my way home (I had the A/C on and it wasnt in the sun) and I get home and opened the case and the "START UP" screen was flashing on and off pretty fast. I Got it to stop by pressing buttons and it went through the set up like the first time I started it. I has done this to me alot. When I got it new it worked just fine for about 2 months then all of a sudden, it does this whenever it feels like it. Sometimes it can got 2 hours without it of 2 weeks. What do I do? Anyone heard of this? I called palm and they wouldn't tell me anything without $25, but all he said was "I've heard of that problem". Thanks. Sorry this is a long post but I am getting frustrated.

Could be a loose connection, could be static. Can you leave it alone for a while, and see if it happens again?
What about new programs and hacks that you may have installed?

Well thats what I did, the last time it happened. It had sat unused for about 2 months. I did not HotSync. I just did the set up that it makes you do. The only things on it were what came from the factory. And it still did it. Thats what I was talking about in the first post. I does it no matter what you have on it or anything. WEIRD HUH?

When it's working fine will shaking the unit cause it to happen? And when shaking it do you hear a faint tiny rattle?

shaking it didnt make any noise. but if shaken a tiny bit vigorously, it would turn off, not reset but turn off.

You might open the unit and check the battery connection to the board (circled in the picture) Use the eraser end of a pencil to push it in. Be carefull around the bits marked "High Voltage", it's not a joke. If that does'nt help maybe someone else has some ideas?
(note:i am not responsible for any damage (not likely) that may occur to you or the unit should you try this)

I had just tried that before I read your post. That didn't work, 2 hours later. CRASH!!! Same thing... I have found some company that has a few motherboards for the Palm IIIc for sale on eBay for $25, they came from Palms with busted screens. I'll try anything. Better that then a new handheld....

I thought the light needed 90 volts.
