I presently own an m505 which is in the hospital for a couple of weeks. I'd like to get a backup and have settled on a Zire but have a couple of questions:

- can I have two Palms be completely separate as far as folders, etc. goes; i.e. can I set up two entities without comingling?

- I seem to remember that the Zire hot syncs only by cable. Is that true?

Yes, the Zire only has a mini-USB cable. No cradle. As long as you have a different user name on the desktop you should have no problems. I have several Palms that I sync to a single PC. Never had any problems.

You should be able to make this work easily. Yes, you will have to use a cable connection. Just make the username of the Zire something like "Backup" so the computer does not get confused.

In case you don't know, you can simply have a backup on the computer or on an expansion card. This would save some money. However, it will only be a backup of the data instead of the entire PDA.

If you would like to be able to sync the backup from a cradle, consider buying the m105. You could use the same cradle as your m505 I believe. It is the same price as the Zire. Not that you'd be using it as your main PDA, but it also has four hard keys instead of two, a backlit screen, four times the memory compared to the Zire.

Hope this helps.

as a 2ndary or backup pda, i would just gat an m100 instead of a zire. They cost about half as much as a zire
