Hello i have a macintosh Ibook running 10.2
I am interested in buying a M130...
Here is my reasons for interest in a Palm-
I am not organized and keep missing meetings-
I need a place to store passwords and phone numbers-
I need to jot down notes and keep an errand list-
would love to play tetris on the subway-

I was thinking of the ZIRE because its small and lightweight.
It seemed good but I think its over priced for what it is
unless I find it cheap which I found a guy selling it way under the actual price.

Then I was looking at the M130 which is in color and seems like a nicer PALM.
My questions are-
I keep hearing the battery doesn't last long and you have to recharge it daily. Anyone know the battery life? Is it sucky?
I know people say the ZIRE lasts about 3 weeks or so.
Can you download internet info onto the M130?
Would this be a better option for me then the Zire-
Can I sync it between a mac and my work PC?
Is this more for the business oriented persons
who needs to work with data files and spreadsheets and I am spending way too much money and time on this one?
Also how good is the color screen? Pixelated? Hard to read?
How does it handle graffiti too-
Thanks so much!
I just noticed a rebate on the M130
and it seems like a decent choice

I forgot to add-
Is it a sturdy Palm?
I am carrying round a lot of books and things
all the time....
Thanks

In MY opinion, the m130 is a great pda for the price. Since you want to view internet content I would highly recommend it versus the Zire. It has four times the memory. When you start downloading web pages is eats up memory real quick. In addition, it has an expansion slot that you would definitely need when you start loading ebooks and such.

The battery life is not what you would get out of some of the others, like the Zire or the m515 and the screen is not as clear as some of the higher end units. But, if you turn off the backlight you should be able to get a few days use out of it. In addition, the battery is rechargable, so as long as you get home every couple of days or so, it should be no problem.

As far as syncing between a Mac at home and a PC at work, I don't know. Never tried that one. I don't recall it being discussed either. Can anyone help out?

Is it sturdy? Yes. I like the removeable faceplates too. If you scratch one up you can always replace it.

"Anyone know the battery life? Is it sucky?"
abour 4 with backlight and 8 without.

"Can you download internet info onto the M130?"
Using Avantgo or iSilox, you download sites for off-line browsing

"Would this be a better option for me then the Zire-"
yes. It's color, expandable, better :)

"Can I sync it between a mac and my work PC?"
I'm not sure about this. You might want to search the internet for some comments about this.

"Is this more for the business oriented persons

For about $200, it's a great deal. I am a teacher and use it all the time for grading, attendance, lesson planning, internet, email, games, check book, ebook reader, datebook, contact lists, printing, photo album, etc.

Also how good is the color screen?
Fine. I get ooh's and aah's all the time

Pixelated?
Little bit, but the smaller screen area help to eliminate this.

Hard to read?
Depends a lot on you eye sight, but for most people it is fine.

How does it handle graffiti too-
graffiti input is good. I do use it often and never had troubles.

You might want to look around these forums for some answers. I have seen many threads about Zire vs m105 and Zire vs m130. They will tell you everything you need most likely.

My daughter got an M130 for Christmas. Yesterday, it wound up in the washing machine. It turns on but the Palm Reset screen never goes away after the reset button pushed.

Is there hope for it?
Recommendations for repair or service?
Help?

Thanks

Allen,
try a hard reset (holding the power button while resetting) and please open a new thread this is way off subject here

Yes. A hard reset should do the trick.

I have a palm m 130 and an i-mac. I am very happy with the m 130,:p and it synchs wonderfully with my mac. For the money, the m 130 is a great PDA.
Hope this helps

Also, there is a conduit for iSync that you can use with Palm Desktop.

as far as the m130 palm goes here is my reasons for getting it:

-You can still write word documents
-You have color :D
-You can view jpgs
-There are thousands of palm programs..... If there isn't a program for your need, I can make it;)
-And there are more palm users that pocketpc, so you can send stuff to almost anyone........... if they have a palm

I have a m100 and my dad has a m130 that I have access to all the time, so I know a lot about them and I've been around pocketpc's too, but for the price of a pocketpc, your better off going with a palm. Remember, you can only do so much with a PDA, so don't spend a lot of money on one if ya don't have to.

Hope that helps...... oh yea, the zire is skimpy on memory and it is monochrome........... trust me, go with the m130..... color is much better!

If you get a palm m130, you can synch it to both your i-book and a desk-top windows machine. You just need to install the palm desk top on both computers and set up your user name on both. I used to synch with mac at home and PC at work. Also, if you use word smith or documents to go on the palm, you could view word files on both platrorms, using the palm as a go-between. I am a ful time college student and I carry my Palm around in my bookbag everyday and have not had any problems with it.
