Argh!
My m130 is just over two months old, and I am already starting to get the small scratches in the grafetti section. I know Palm is going to include Jot! in their O/S sometime later this year, which I will use as I prefer it over the restricted (and unlit) area we are suppose to write on now, but in the mean time I was wondering if someone had a recommendation of what I can do to either polish these scratches out (highly unlikely as it is plastic) or how the screen cover sheets work. Can you cut them to just work in the grafetti area? Do they degrade the sensitivity of the stylus? Do they "feel" any different to the touch? Who sells them at a reasonable price on-line (I am in Belgium but get US mail here).
Thanks! :D

I used to use Scotch Magic Tape on the graffiti area. That was before Santa brought me screen protectors.
If you want to cover the whole screen cheaply, by a roll of ultra-clear packaging tape. This only works on the m1xx series.

I would advise against putting scotch tape or any other kind of homemade screen protector on your palm. The adhesive used on tape is not designed for a palm's screen. I had the same problem as you ( I have an m130 too). After about 2 months my graffiti screen was scratched up (mainly on the side you write letters). I was upset at how simple it was to damage until I looked at a website that sold screen protectors. Since they had a store locally, I ran down and bought a pack. At $22 (US) they are not really cheap. There are 12 in a pack (one for each month) so they will last a year. I think $22 a year is a small price to pay since a replacement screen will cost about $75 (US). I realize that you are in Belgium and you may not have a local Comp USA store, but never fear. If you can't find any screen protectors there then visit www.fellowes.com or a smiliar site like: www.pdamart.com/cleanerscloths.html
PS. I put my screen protector on and after you get the hang of applying it... you won't even realize it's there. I sometimes use an ink pen to tap the screen.. fully confident of a replacement screen protector wating nearby. Oh.. yeah.. the scratch is still on the graffiti area, but the screen protector works so perfect that it is not even visible until I replace the screen protector (once a month). It covers the entire screen Majomadmax... no scratches to worry about now!

Something like clear tape should work perfectly. I also have many small scratches on the Graffiti area. It doesn't really bother me that much though because I don't have to look at anything there. I worry about scratches on the screen more.

When I used the Packaging tape, it came off very easily when it time had come. (It also took the dirt with it:D:) The scotch tape is a low adhesive tape, and it also holds on for a while.
I think you can use the screen protectors for longer than a month.

My homemade ones made from inkjet window decals came off without a trace. They have very low tack adhesive. You can cut them to whatever size you want, up to 8.5"x11". I got lazy and switched to CompanionLink because they were reasonably clear and cheap.
If you go to www.freescreenprotectors.com the first pack is "free" and they might be able to ship to you, since they ship by USPS ($7 minimum shipping though!)
Scotch 811 is a low tack tape. It fits the height of the Grafitti area perfectly. Many people use this if they only want to protect that area.

I think you can use the screen protectors for longer than a month. I have had no problem letting them go 2 or 3 months

I bought/installed a Fellowes WriteRIght protector at the same time I purchased my m130, around September 2002 and am still on the same protector and not one scratch! I put a protector on my wifes Palm at the same time and her's is still scratch free as well..
This is not an ad for Fellowes, but a good protector is a very cheap investment in our book. FYI. We use our Palms EVERY DAY for business and personal purposes.

Well Blackvyper, that's exactly what those screen protectors are...transparent plastic sheets with adhesive on them. :)
I too made my own protector...$22 was too much in my opinion for something so cheap to produce. I spent less than that on the vinyl to make my own and have enough for three hundred or more.
I also know that most model/ hobby stores of any credit have sheet plastic that one could try out as a protector... no adhesive whatsoever, but it is a stiffer plastic and may not respond to touch as well. I personally haven't tried this yet but I may soon.

The one thing I forgot to mention is that some of the protectors like from Fellowes, has a very light texture on it which in my wife's and my oppinion makes it a little easier writting Graffiti. For someone with poor handwriting it smooths out the wild strokes that can sometimes confuse Graffiti.
My two cents plus..

You're right LocutisJ, the Fellowes screen protectors increase the graffiti recognition of your palm. Another thing I must clarify. The screen protectors come in a pack of 12.... one for every month as stated on the package. The life of the screen protectors depend on usuage as with all other things. . Fellowes beats scoth tape anyday... think about it now. You use scoth tape for a screen protector. Would you use a screen protector as tape??
Yes.. I am the omnipotent one. I know and see all.
