I've tried with two versions of Mobipocket Reader to install it on my Psion, from my "work" laptop, which runs Windows 2000. Both times the installation failed, because the installation programme couldn't create a file which it needed. Does anyone have any clues how to work round this, please?

If all else fails, I guess I could try again on my laptop at home, which runs Windows Me, but it would be handy to know why there's the problem with Win 2K.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I have done this successfully, and I have Win 2K. What is the error message it gives? What file can it not create?

I also have Mobipocket successfully installed from a Win2K PC.

If you are installing from a .SIS file, is there any reason why you can't copy the file to the Psion and run it there instead of on the PC?

Alas, the Mobipocket reader does not install from a sis file. However, after you install from the setup executable it does create a .sis file on your PC.

That said, count me as another Win2k user who has successfully installed the Mobipocket reader.

If you need the .sis file, let me know; I'll e-mail it to you and perhaps that will work for you.

Dear all

Thanks for the posts. To answer diem's questions:

When I simply clicked on the self-extracting archive, the error message was pretty cryptic, so I used Winzip first to unpack the self-extracting archive to its own folder, and ran "setup.exe". The error message was then:

The InstallShield Engine (iKernel.exe) could not be installed.

IKernel.exe could not be copied to 'C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Engine\6\Intel32'. Make sure that you have the appropriate privileges to copy files to this folder. (0x20)

This looks to me like an issue of file permissions; since it's a work PC, and our IT department don't let mere end users have much in the way of privileges, I suspect it should work OK when I try on a PC over which I have fuller control!

To doogald: thanks very much for the offer to mail me the .sis file; I'll take a raincheck on that for a while, if I may. I'm in France at the moment (using GPRS on a mobile, which is a great improvement on old-fashioned CS data over GSM ;-)), but when I get home I'll have a go on one of the home PCs (my wife's laptop, which runs Win Me, and my own desktop PC, which runs Win 2K, but without being hobbled by the IT department...

All the best

Ian
