I bought a new Toshiba Notebook a few weeks ago. Couldn't hotsync my Palm130 After a week and a half, Toshiba said it was a faulty computer (USB connections). The new one also won't hotsync. I took it back to Circuit City and used THEIR cradle, software and still no hotsync. It keeps looking for COM1 and says that as soon as it's not busy it will connect. Toshiba tech says that the USB ports are connected to COM4. At this point everything's on hold. Has anyone out there had this problem? Sounds like a Toshiba problem because I can get it to hotsync on my desktop. Any advice or suggestions will be greatly appreciated!!

Have you tried reinstalling the Palm Desktop software? If that doesn't work, you may want to try a soft reset of a hard reset on your Palm. You might also try all of the different COM ports regardless of what Toshiba said. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply Eric. All of the items you mention have been tried. However, changing com ports is not an option. USB (I'm told) uses the appropriate available com port. Thus setting the hotsync to "Local USB". Device Manager temporarily recognizes Palm hardware but as soon as it can't make a connection the Palm Device verbage disappears. Oddly, in doing a manual set up of hardware, the Palm Device is listed but unable to go beyond that point. I highlight the line and nothing happens after that. Also, when plugging in the USB cradle, I get no message regarding "new hardware found" . Pretty goofy situation. At this point it looks like a Toshiba motherboard issue??????

I wasn't just assuming that they've tried it. If you look up at one of the first posts in this thread, the person mentions setting it to Local USB. I don't think they'd be lying.

Thanks for the input!! However, still no hotsync. Guess I should try the serial to USB. If that works, it sounds like its a motherboard problem with Toshiba. I'm surprised that no one else out there has a Toshiba notebook with the same problem. Does anyone have Toshiba notebook computer and NOT experiencing these problems??
