can anyone make any suggestions? i have a palm Vx and a nokia 6100 series cell phone and a palm VX modem. is there a way to check my yahoo mail from the road? if so, how?

I have no experience whatsoever with the Palm modem or the Nokia 61xx phones, but it IS possible, I'm sure. I use a Palm m125 and Motorola p280 phone to do it, using the IR ports on the Palm and phone. Have a look at www.mywirelesspalm.com ; that's where I found how to make the connection. (I've used a Visor Deluxe and Nokia 8290 combination, too.)

I have a site with lots of free info/help sites for Wireless Palm setup info. If its a OLD 61xx its a simple cable avilable on EBAY for $15 USD. If its a new 61xx its another story , infra red or more expensive cable.
