What is involved in using usb rather than serial connections? I don't have serial ports and my Jornada is in the mail.
Also does anyone use AIM on these things with the ethernet adapter? I'd really like to be able to chat or browse the web on campus where theres ethernet connections available.
Thanks,
Rosco

USB made me crazy with my 548 so I switched to serial at home and at work. It kept having conflicts and needing to be "resolved" on my IBM aptiva.
The serial port may be slower. I'm not sure I ever saw much of a difference.
My Aptiva only has the older USB ports and my scanner was also using one so your experience may be better (plus that was with the older version of Active synch).
On the other topic... I know they exist but I haven't played with them yet.

duh... just realized I only half answered you. Just plug it in to the USB port using the proper connector after you install active synch.

Thanks for the replies. I'm wondering where I get the "proper connector"?
Also with the ethernet adapter or wireless thing can I use the internet like a regular pc? Is it difficult to operate those things?
Thanks again

It didn't come with any usb connections. Only serial. My motherboard is the Abit IT7 Max which doesn't have serial ports.
I need to find some way to connect it via usb. I could get a pci serial port but I'd really rather use USB. Any advice?

That is major bogus--- http://www.hp.com/cposupport/manindex/hpjornada418659_eng_man.html
I just checked out the HP website and went through the accessory list and the adobe manual at the above shortcut.
Your 530 apparently doesn't support USB (I knew the 525 didn't )
Sorry Rosco, you're going to need to install a serial port to use this Jornada with the cradle.
You might be able to synch wirelessly if you can get the ethernet thing worked out.
Tiger Direct (tigerdirect.com) has motherboards accessories and parts at pretty good prices and the service is excellent.
Sorry about the prior advice, I guess HP didn't support USB connection of the Jornada until the 540 series. (My 548 will go either way USB or Serial).
Good Luck,
Alan

Alan,
I thank you very much for your responses. Although I think I may have confused you at some point. I'm talking about the 430, not the 530.
I'm looking into ordering serial ports to install via pci. Although I'd much rather sync another way, that'll have to do.

Hi Ross,
Sorry. Working with geriatric population I have these moments from time to time. I knew your PDA was a 430 (is there a 530???). Alzhiemer's is probably only a few keystrokes away.
