No problem. So how's the p800 treating you? Likes/ Dislikes? You happen to get a headset fot it?

hi jofa,

i like the fone, but i bought it primarily because of the full blown pda in it.

there r some issues tho ---

1. initially, i couldn't get it 2 sync with outlook & tried 2 call their helpline. appears there's only ONE person manning the line. so ... it's IMPOSSIBLE. never did succeed in getting thru.

2. took the fone 2 their service centre as the fone was misbehaving - the bluetooth headset wld disconnect from the fone 4 no apparent reason; during a sync, calendar entries made in outlook refused 2 ul in2 the fone; and some other minor issues. they told me that there have been TWO software upgrades 2 the internal s/w in the last month! so once they do that, presumably the problems will disappear.

3. the ring tones r too soft & cannot b heard when in public places. & the vibrate function is too mild - as compared 2 any of the nokia's.

4. with nokia, i enjoyed composing sms on the computer and sending thru the fone using a irda link. this doesn't support it.

5. tried uploading a ms doc with images in it. the text is fine. the images don't u/l and all u c r the placements.

but all said & done, a good fone.

:D

Thanks vmps. All points to consider for sure. Good to hear it's overall a good phone because I'm getting one! :) On reserve over at the SE site as we speak.

So you said you had a headset? Which one? I am looking at the HBH 60 (Bluetooth). I like the wireless feature and of course the voice activation. Are you happy with your headset?

I feel like I should be paying you for your advice! :)

Thanks in advance...

hi jofa,

i got the hbh-30 as the -60 is not yet on the market - at least, i've not seen it anywhere. and i hv encountered a few probs -

1. after getting 2-3 incoming calls which get sent 2 the headset successfully, the headset "disconnects" from the fone so the next call does not come thru 2 the headset. when driving, this is a pain.

2. inspite of inputting an unusual "operative" word 2 activate voice dialling, the fone did make some calls automatically. the downside is that i setup my fone 2 goto screensaver & then standby mode 2 prolong battery life ... & the screen gives no indication that it is dialling or has dialled a number 4 u! i simply diasabled voice dialling as i found it 2 b extremely unreliable. however, if u hv the headset on all the time - AND it doesn't disconnect from the fone - then u r OK as u will know of the outgoing call. but that's 2 many if's ...

:(

lemme know if u need anything else. glad 2 help.

Apparently there are still some issues with bluetooth and device paring (necessary for using both headsets and the bluetooth car kits). It seems this is a known weakness and that parings being dropped is a comman occurance. I had the bluetooth car kit for my T68i but it's connection was too patchy so have moved over to a normal wired car kit. So much for wire free !!!

Would be nice to see sony erricsson resolving this soon.

Voice recognition is also a bit of a pain and requires complete silence to operate correctly and I found it could be triggered by the radio quite easily. Best thing is to get handsfree headset/kit with an activate button (mmmm ok not that handsfree then !!) which you can press to tell the phone you want to perform a voice command.

As far as advertised features go, these definitely need some work.

Si

i completely agree. the pairing is at best patchy. It is surprising that a company of this size released a product that doesn't really work. in effect, u & me r the guinea pigs ... ??? hmmm ???

correct. it dials randomly a bit too much, when voice dialling is activated. definitely needs work.

My dear VMPS...

SUKZ?

FONE?

PPL?

lemme?

I take it that this means you either can't spell, or you are too lazy to type in the one or two extra characters to turn it in to a plain english sentence. Either way, it's sad. People (or is that PPL?) who can't even use their language properly when asking for help in a public forum don't need technology. No matter how much technical wizardry they own, they need a teacher and some manners.

Sorry folks, but people who speak gibberish should expect gibberish in return.

Personally, I am much more likely to respond quickly to a message which is well composed and easy to read - those which require a degree of deciphering tend to get shifted to the bottom of the pile.

I understand the use of (and reason for) abbreviations in text messaging, but on the forum we do not have a character limit! :)

Thanks for the support Julie. Or should that be Thnx 4 the suppt? :D

Mobile phones have an awful lot to answer for. When it gets to the point of children handing in homework written in this "shorthand" I give up in despair.

I shall stop pontificating to the masses, before the masses exact their revenge.

Ian :)

My girlfriend is an English teacher, and assures me all shorthand homework scores nil points :) She's a bit vague with smilies though.

Without trying to belabor the point, I've pointed out on another thread that many of the people who come to Psion Place are not native English speakers. Writing in this sort of "cool" shorthand may be fine among friends who use the same type of vernacular but it makes it almost impossible for a non-native English speaker to understand - it doesn't help native English speakers either:) . I think it's a sign of respect for those of use who are native English speakers to write as clearly as possible when posting so that everyone can get the most out what's being written.
