Once the OS 5 models start hitting the shelves, all of the current models will start being discontinued, as they can't be upgraded to OS 5.

Surely this defeats the object of Flash Rom - why have upgrade features if the new OS won't allow it anyway, may as well have bought an M125 ???

I think Palm's initial objective with Flash upgrading was valid and intended for the long haul. The truth is that to retain their competitive position with the PPC devices they felt obligated to move to the newer and faster processors. The newer processor required an entirely new OS. Palm has made every effort with OS 5 to not interfere with the continued use of our favorite applications should we migrate to the units running OS 5.
In the past Palm has made an effort to share upgrades to the OS with previously discontinued units. My IBM C3 (Palm Vx) is operating with OS 4.1. It was manufactured with 3.5. Had Palm no interested in the older units they would not have come out this year with an upgrade. I am not convinced that the M515 is going to be dropped. Palm's chief rival in the Palm OS arena, SONY has discontinued there 70 series only a few months after it was introduced. I have read complaints on this board about Palm being slow to develop new units compared to SONY but I much prefer slow to "now you see it now you don't." How does tech support keep up with that?
Just a little mud in the water!
Doc
PS: Palm's tech reps are not Palm employees, they are subcontracted. Very few have ever had a Palm in there hand!? This is true for the SONY techs also.
