Kind of a clunky solution, but I suppose beggars can't be choosers.. From the way its described, I think it would work on any Psion device too! wanman 02-06-2003, 02:42 AM My thoughts too. And there was people complaining that they did not have bluetooth for their Psion. Ok, it may not be inbuilt and you might as well get a cable between your psion and phone or other device rather than cabling up the bluetooth device (unless you use IRDA, of course), but at least the option seems to be there. Si ktkawabe 02-06-2003, 06:47 AM Hi, I was interested and looked at the spec sheet, expecting something capable of mobile connectivity, but instead found out that a mains adapter is needed. Battery operation was not mentioned anywhere, so I assume it cannot run on batteries (at least you have to custom-build something). Though it would work with Psions, it seems that it's not what people are looking for. http://www.brainboxes.com/downloads/datasheets/bluetooth/BL-521_RS232_Bluetooth_Converter.pdf Regards, Keita swing 06-13-2003, 10:41 AM However, 200mA @ 5v is less than most WiFi cards need, so it might well be possible to rig up something for portable use. Is this unit actually shipping yet (one of the UK suppliers is listing it as coming soon) and have prices been announced yet? Thanks, Steve daniel_harker 06-13-2003, 01:36 PM You said "subject to getting an RS232 converter; but the psion's serial connector is fully RS232 compliant, you just need the docking cable from PsiWin swing 06-14-2003, 02:54 AM I think he meant subject to obtaining the rs232 convertor version of the device, which was announced, but may not yet have actually shipped, as opposed to getting one of the other devices which will not work. Steve bradm 06-23-2003, 10:28 PM Moved this from the Modem group, didn't realise this discussion was about serial converters. Just came across these serial cable replacement bluetooth modules: http://www.air2u.com.tw/products/bcr01.htm They look similar to the brainbox devices, but different connection. Might plug straight into the Psion serial cable, depending on whether DCE or DTE config. They're fairly cheap, about $AUS115 each and appear to be shipping now: http://www.auspcmarket.com.au/index.html?redir=http://www.auspcmarket.com.au/show_product_info.php?code=CO-BMA01 Although this is the modem version, doesn't appear to support SPP profile. They don't seem to stock the serial cable version. Add 4x1.2 V rechargeable batteries and a cable and it might work. Just trying to think what the best applicaton would be if it did work? Possible wireless synchronisation/backup of a Netbook instead of Wi-Fi FTP? Is there any way of initiating a backup /sync from the Netbook without having to start it at the PC? Actually, it looks like you could build the circuit board into a Revo docking station? That might be interesting, although an antenna could be a problem.
