To overclock your Palm you can use a program called FastCPU. It will definitely speed up your Palm device but only on the internal memory. The SD card will still function at normal speeds  As for making your own modem... let me know how you do it. I dont wanna pay $100 more just to go online.

Hi Guys,

I know this is an old thread but I just wanted to tell someone that I managed to use my Palm m130 with an old 28.8k modem last Christmas / New Year when I visited my mother in the UK.

All you need is a Palm SERIAL connector and a NULL MODEM. My old external modem has a 9-pin socket at the end of the cable (just the same as the socket on the end of the Palm serial cable), so my NULL MODEM was made from two 9-pin plugs and five short lengths of wire to make the following connections from one plug to the other: Pin 2 connected to Pin 3; Pin 3 connected to Pin 2; Pin 5 connected to Pin 5; Pin 7 connected to Pin 8; Pin 8 connected to Pin 7. THAT'S ALL! (I used two threaded stand-offs to bolt the two plugs together and some insulation tape to hide my rather ugly soldering.)

As for software, I'm a whimp, so, I got a copy of AOL for Palm OS as everything is done for you - no problems! I just used the default phone number and, then selected the most appropriate phone number from the local list. I particularly liked being able to tap-out my emails in front of a warm fire (it did actually snow whilst I was there) and then connect to AOL to collect my emails and send my replies - very efficient.

By the way: The NULL MODEM was found on a German WEB site (I think), so, all credit goes to them. Of course, I accept no responsibility for any damage that you may cause to your PDA! All I know is that the set-up worked perfectly for me........ (if you only make those five links, I cannot see how you could possibly cause a problem but there again....)

Also, try doing a Google search about the topic. I believe that http://www.mywirelesspalm.com has some good related information.
