How come icons vanish?

On my start menu (ipaq 3950) icons vanish constantly and become the generic white exe. box. Going to "menu" removing one-then going back and adding it restores the icons.

Why do they vanish? It doesn't affect anything but is cosmetically disturbing.

Are the icons from app's that you have loaded in main memory or somewhere else (ie. storage card)? From what folder or location are the icons "vanishing"?

They are from the storage card-the card is never removed but left in. They vanish from the main start menu.

I use two different CF memory card in my iPAQ 3635 (running newest update of PPC2002) and I have Media Player and a few other programs installed on the card. On a few of them I had to make the Sortcut for the Start menu. But when the cards change and some of the time it happens when it its turned on, the programs run OK and sometimes it'll lock up. I use a program called Battery monitor and when I turn on my iPAQ I open the program to verify that the unit has seen the card. Sometimes I need to reseat the sleeve to have the unit initailize the sleeve. I wil look around to see if this is a common problem.

The problem has to do with the time it takes to access the storage card... A hard reset will not fix it. The system is looking for the icons before the storage card can provide the info. I've seen this happen on the Today screen -- the icons can be refreshed there by accessing the Today screen settings...

I have a similar problem after using NYDITOT Virtual Display. After returning to normal view my Dashboard skin which is stored on the SD card cannot be found -- I have use the default skin until the device is ready, then reselect the skin in the Dashboard configuration.
