Could any one please tell me what is the difference between the 2 CF cards as I am advised that the expansion sleeve that I purchased recently will take both.

CompactFlash I is a thinner format (if you ever looked at a CF slot that takes CF II , you'll notice a rectangle, then there is an extra raised rectangle of shorther length) , The most commonly found cards in CF I format are CF Storage cards.

CompactFlash II is a little thicker, and are not usally storage devices ( unless they're something similar to IBM Microdrives, or those new 3Gig CF cards ), I only have one card that is CF II , and its a Bluetooth Adapter for PDAs.

CF II generally needs more power, and also have more material space needed, thus the extra thickness.

Oh btw, CompactFlash I isnt always restricted to just memory cards, certain cards overcome the CF II restriction by putting the mass of the hardware above the card, for example this product.

Its compactFlash I compatible, most of it's hardware is above the card.

Thanks Karl.

Well explained and the link you provided clarified it further. It looks like a CF 1 card for me when I buy as I only want it for extra storage of maps when I get my OziExplorerCE up and running.
