The time has come for me to change the battery in my trusty IIIc. I find that I am not sure what will happen will all my data and software when I do that. Do I lose everything but the operating system? I hotsynch regularly but I am wondering if there are things that will simply disappear. Thanks in advance for your input.

After the new battery has been installed and charged your next hotsync will start by asking you which HotSync ID to use. If you have only one then the answer will be easy. During the sync all data will be reinstalled to you IIIc.
As I'm sure you are aware there is potential for a high voltage danger in the IIIc, be carefull.

You may want to download the trial version of Backupbuddy, just to make sure everything is backed up properly before you change the battery.

Little-man has made an excellent recommendation to use Backup Buddy.
Another program I like is SyncWizard. With SyncWizard you can make a complete backup of all the files including the ROM if you felt the need. The biggest problem with SyncWizard is the developer will never respond if you have a problem. I posted a negative review on PalmGear anf they never displayed it.

PS: Sync Wizard does not work on my Win 98SE machine.
