Greetings. My apologies for being a simpleton on computer (including PDA) related knowledge. I have an iPAQ 5455. I want it to be able to connect to the internet and to be able to receive and send my work e-mail, both wirelessly. The question is, how do I make that happen? A bit more background: I called HP, who told me they didn't provide wireless service anymore gave me a number of another company to call, but all I get is a recorder and no return call. Verizon tells me their system isn't compatible with my device, so they can't activate it. I've spent lots 'o time on the net trying to figure it out myself, but have been unsuccessful. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanx lots.

The 5400 series provides access to a standard 802.11b WLAN infrastructure, so you need to have an access point (wireless router) and a connection to the Internet. The Compaq CP-2W is such a device, as are others from various manufacturers.

The access point is connected either to an existing network (and acts like a hub) or is used to connect directly to a DSL or Cable modem.

Once the access point is in place you need to configure your iPAQ to work with it. This usually involves configuring the channel, access mode (infrastructure or ad-hoc, peer-to-peer) and SSID of the access point.
