I read an earlier message on this forum regarding this topic with no followups - hopefully there will be some followups to this message.

I received the 3360 from att - free for signing up for their service.

- I followed the instructions in the manual for sending vcards to the phone with no luck.

- I downloaded several pieces of software, including IRCopy with no luck. IRCopy seems to synch up and even detects that it is connected to a 3360 but the contacts do not update on the phone and when receiving from the phone - there is nothing in the file.

- I downloaded IA phone manager software and also no luck - when trying a phone status I get "A proper connection between mobile phone and Pocket PC was not detected. 30610:1000:20"

- In all the above cases the symbol that designates an IR connection changes from flashing to solid indicating a connection.

I looked on Nokia message boards and there are messages that the data service features of the phone are disabled by att but I cannot determine if this is true or they just mean that the data service capabilities of the att network are disabled.

I have called att and received only stupid answers.

I have looked for technical specs to determine the protocol so I can write a debugging ap but cannot find anything.

I have spent too much time on this already but I have become dangerously obsessed and also I was layed off recently and it seems like a good little project to work on pda development.

I have the Nokia connectivity suite but do not have a IRDA port on any of my PCs.

Can someone help or point me in a non frustrating direction?

I don't know, but I have read somewhere that the iPAQ's IR Port transmit on a different BAUD rate than the PALMs, because my wife has a PALM Vx and I can transmit perfectly. With my iPAQ, I have the same problem. Maybe the iPAQ's IR port baud rate must be changed to match the one on the 3360, maybe to 57,600? Does anybody have a clue?

I just thought of this, and maybe if you have free time you can work it out... is there a way to use the iPAQ's IR Port and attach it as a device on the desktop PC? I mean, is it possible to build some kind of driver to allow the iPAQs IR port to be used as a device installed on the desktop pc? This could be such a life saver for many, as almost nobody has IR enabled PCs but many people do have PocketPCs.

If you can do that, then you are closer to your solution.

I ended up purchasing a USB IRDA port from EBAY - it cost approx. $25 with shipping. It works well except that Outlook/Nokia connection manager software does not provide an easy way to export only contacts with phone numbers (you have to put them in Excel first then weed out the ones without phone numbers) and then import them back to Outlook as a separate contact list.

I don't think the issue is Baud rate - the IPAQ displays "Nokia 3360" when it connects - if the Baud rate was incorrect then the text string would be corrupted - it just won't transfer the address book.

I think that I have a simple answer. Apparently the Nokia phone can only recognize data from a Palm OS device. I recently purchased a Dell Axim and have the same problem. I called Dell and they are clueless. My old Palm can communicate with the phone just fine. I think that I might send the Axim back to Dell.

Go and download / purchase a program called PEACEMAKER for the PocketPC. this Software will allow you to successfully Sync your information on the iPAQ or PocketPC with your Nokia 3360, even the reminders! The free version of PEACEMAKER only allows you to send contacts to the 3360. The PRO version allows you to sync contacts, and calendar events as reminders on the 3360. This program will also let you sync with PALMs. Registration is about $15 for the PRO version.
