Does anybody know how to change the partnership name in ActiveSync? I'd rather not be Pocket_PC

I tested it on my e740 Pocket PC 2002 and found that you can do it very easily.
BUT FIRST BACKUP YOUR PDA!!!!!
It simple...break your sync connection (by stopping the sync from the Pocket PC 2002) after your backup. On the Pocket PC 2002 follow these steps.
Choose...Start--Settings--System(tab)--About -- then rename to what you want. Open activesync on the Pocket PC and intiate a sync connection and it should (with a lot of luck) resync with the new name. You could run into some problems with unresolved files but you should be able to work that out.
PLEASE BACKUP BEFORE ATTEMPTING THIS!!!!! can't stress that enough. Good luck!!

Question: is there some way to reuse an previously used device ID?
The battery on my pocket pc ran down and I lost all of its settings and the applications. I re-entered the device ID into the pocket pc and tried to resync to the PC desktop via activesync. However, the activesync on my desktop pc does not recognize the previously established partnership under the device ID I had before the battery ran down and requests that I set up a new partnership. The new partnership screen "name your device" asks for a device name, and if I enter the old device name, I get an error message "the device name is already in use. You must enter a different name for your device." Well, I know I can enter a new device ID and establish a new partnership, but I'd rather keep the old one so that all of the previously information sync'd to the desktop gets copied to my pocket pc. Is it possible to reuse an old device id?

Yes, it is possible to re-use an old device name. Backing up your PDA first would be a very, very good idea.
After you have a good backup, disconnect your PDA from your PC. On the PC, open ActiveSync. From the menu at the top, click File --> Delete Partnership. Select the old name that you want to be able to re-use and delete the partnership for it.
At this point, you should be able to rename your PDA (see previous reply in this thread) to the name that you want to re-use, and connect it to your PC. ActiveSync on your PC should act as though it's seeing your PDA for the first time and take you through the wizard to set up a partnership.
