Experimenting with a co-worker, I cannot receive a beamed appointment or beam an appointment unless the two units are directly pointed at each other and less than two feet apart. I think the constraints are a lot more than with a Palm unit. Can anybody tell me if this is what I should expect or is there something wrong with this feature?

that's it... You got it... Pocketpcs aren't BEAMING crazy, like with Palms. Another thing you'll realize is that you can't beam a person a program like in Palm, you can only beam, files, pictures, appointments..etc.

Peacemaker Pro will let you beam files to Palm and mobile phones.

Does this short IR range mean that the AXIM would be ineffective as a remote control for the tv, if we had the program for it? Or does it just mean that it can't send data over longer distances?

The short range IR is a hardware issue. So far, the only Pocket PCs with long range IR are the iPAQ 3900 and 5400 series. You can still use your Axim as a remote control and to beam files and data. However, you have to be fairly close to the other IR device.
