The if Larg fomat fit coloured.
Reinstall OS (450) after not get better.
What is problem?
zolee
to clarify, are you saying that at small and medium zoom levels the icon for SIS files is black & white, but at large zoom it is colour?
Also, are you saying that this only happens with OS 450 and didn't happen with your previous version? What version did you use previously?

Hi Yan,
Yes you've got it (sorry for my english).
Yes, my old 158/370 OS worked fine.
I Reinstalled the new version at 3 times (without making backup) and it still has the problem.
zolee:confused:
Yes, I've just installed the 450 OS and I get exactly the same behaviour. Looks as though its a 'feature' of this OS release. Not exactly worth going back to a previous version for though eh :p

Hi all,
Yippee!! netBook has 450 version of OS,
Strange these black and white icons in the C:/system/install folder. This only happens in the smallest zoom levels, but then sudden appears in full colour at max zoom.
In addition, I have also noticed a slightly change in the system icon when this is displayed in the software nSwitcher.
Looks like possible bug problems in the 450 release, but lets hope that is it. I concur with Yan, I am not about to throw this version out, as the 450 OS in general, seems to be doing its thing. :p

Hi all,
The icons are controlled by a .aif file in your system/apps directories. Black & White smaller icons are usually caused by lazy development (apologies if anyone takes that as a personal dig).
Within the .aif file is a set of usually 3, but sometimes 4, icon groups (a group = 1xIcon and 1xmask). One icon & mask for each size required by the zoom function. Unfortunately the .aif file is un editable as it is compiled using the SDK tool aiftool so editing/adding new coloured icons is not an easy task (but not impossible !!!)
If you have an application such as MBMViewer (4.12), you can load this .aif file into the viewer and check it out. I have a 7series and have checked out data.aif and there are three sets of icons each in full colour (masks are black and white only). If your .aif files do not contain the three coloured icons then this is the reason the smaller zoomed icons are in black and white. If this is the case you could try copying your original .aif files from your backup (just the .aif file and make sure you keep a copy of the original..... just in case)
If your .aif files have three sets of icons in full colour then try closing MBMview and check your data icons again. I had a similar problem when installing new software on the 7 series where only the large icons were displayed in colour until the .aif file was browsed using MBMViewer. I am not sure why this is but it seemed to work for me.
If this does not work then the new OS must still be a bit buggy !!
Hope this info helps

Si

If this problem only affects .sis files icon the you need to check the folder system\apps\InstApp\InstApp.aif. If this file is missing some icons or is corrupt in some way try your backups or I can send one from the 7. Should work fine as this file only controls the icons and icon name.

Hi All,
I am intrigued by the process of solving these black and white .sis icons into the colour versions in all zoom levels on my netBook. This is not just the .sis files in the install app section, they appear all over the netBook with any file with the .sis extension. I do have MBMViewer v4.12 installed on my netBook, but I do not get these three icons displayed when accessing the .aif icons from the Z drive, as Wanman explains. I have loaded the data.aif and a few others from the Z drive with the same result, one colour icon and nothing else.
If I am to assume the InstApp.aif is corrupted or buggy, should I install the 370 OS InstApp.aif file to the C drive as the Z drive will not accept any files loaded into this area. I assume the installed C drive InstApp.aif file will take precedence over the InstApp.aif Z drive file, restoring all .sis files to colour icons in all zoom levels???
I have loaded the 450 OS via a CF card, therefore I do not have a 370 OS version of the InstApp.aif. I would greatly appreciate if someone could email me the old version please.
Zolee, could you confirm the process of solving your black and white .sis problem. Did you load the 370 OS InstApp.aif into your C drive system/apps/instapp area.
Any help would be appreciated:D

Hi Daniel,
When you load the .aif file, only the first icon will be displayed. If you look at the buttons at the bottom of the screen, you should see some arrows with a picture count in the middle (e.g. 1 or 6). If you click on the single arrow button to the immediate right of the picture count button and the application will scroll through each of the icons as you press the button. Hopefully, each of the .aif files you have viewed will display at least 1 of 6. Using the arrow button you can scroll through the remaining 5 which should be in this order.
Current Icon - Smallest sized icon (colour)
Icon 2 - Smallest mask (black & white)
Icon 3 - Middle sized Icon (c)
Icon 4 - Middle sized mask (b&w)
Icon 5 - Large sized Icon (c)
Icon 6 - Large sized mask (b&w)
I am not sure if doing this will solve your colour problems but when I had similar problem with the .sis files on my 7 when I installed Money (from Tom Tom) it upgraded my installation software for some reason and I then had the problems with the icons. When I browsed the .aif file it seem to sort the problem out. The problem you are experiencing could be different but have a look anyway.

Hi All,
Well, well. This little mod does work after all. First and foremost, many thanks to Wanman for your patience and good information explaining how to deal with this. I am only a front-end user. I was not looking at the problem from a frame set point of view. I loaded the 350 OS InstApp.aif icon and had 6 frames to look at, with their correct sizes and respective B&W and colour sets. On the other hand, the 450 OS InstApp.aif file had only one B&W and colour zoom size, as you quite rightly stated.
Many thanks to Zolee for sending the 370 OS InstApp files.
All I have done is install a copy of the 370 build OS files from the Z drive, and install these same files into the current 470 build OS C drive :system/apps/instapp. It appears that the files I have installed on the C drive has taken precedence over the 450 OS file on the Z drive, restoring the netBook .sis icons to their correct presentation in all areas and zoom levels.
Happy boy now, thanks to all concerned. :D

Glad it all worked. We all need to send a message to Psion now to ask why they are getting cheap on us with their operating systems. Seems strange that they needed to amend the .aif files? unless there was a space issue?? Perhaps they will include the correct file with the next release of ER5 (I wonder how long that will be ....................) lol

All
No need to send a message to Psion....we monitor the message boards and are now aware of this 'bug'. I cannot say when we will re-release an updated version of the OS...certainly it will not be in the near future as it makes sense to wait until we have the most feedback as possible - across all languages.
It is annoying this issue with the .sis file icons but it is also a very minor problem and hopefully you all agree that 158 is a lot better than 156 all things considered. At this stage, the only option available would be to remove 158 and replace with 156 again.

Totally agree Harvey - I think I can live with a b/w icon for the sake of ethernet, Opera, nFTP and RFnetStat! ;)

Yep, me too! At least we have a fix to the icon problem, thanks to those of you took the trouble to figure it out. :) It's not high on my priority list atm, though.

Aaah I knew that would get those elusive Psion staff members to come out of the woodwork !! lol
I also agree that this problem is extremely minor and has a work around if you are desperate for coloured .sis icons.
Thanks Harvey good to hear that you check up on us occasionally !!
