Hello. I have an iPaq 3850, and I'm trying to beam a file from my work PC (which doesn't have a dock on it, and I don't have admin priveleges to install one) to my iPaq, and I can't get it. The two devices recognize each other, and the iPaq says "establishing conneection with ..." and never establishes. Oddly enough, I can beam FROM the iPaq to the ThinkPad...just not the other way around. If I send a file to the PocketPC (yes, IR Receive is enabled and open), the PC reports that the device "actively refused" the file.

The computer is an IBM ThinkPad running Windows 2000.

Help!

Does anyone have an idea?

ok, there are 2 things that you can try. the first this is use activesync over your IR connection and just share files that way. You do this by openinh active sync, going to FILE<CONNECTION SETTINGS and then check the allow ir connections and set the pull down menu to IR. Then point the IR ports at eachother, and then using thr Activesync Screen found on your Ipaq... most likely its on your start menu, if not you will find it in "Programs" on the start menu. Then once that screen is up click tools and hit "connect via Ir". This will allow you to use active sync just as you would with a cradle with a IR port.

Ok, second thing, the Ipaq 3800 series only comes preinstalled with the drivers that allow it to send messages to other devices running PPC 2002. Now, Peacemaker Pro, which is a third party software company, does make a program that allows you to send files between the Palm operating system, and I think other Computers... but Im not sure.. I have never done this before. But it doesnt matter, for the software is loaded on your Ipaq disk that came with you unit. So all that you have to do is find this program on your disk and send it your Ipaq.

Hope this helps... but what does a 14 year old know:D :)

Peacemaker is definitely the way to go. You shouldn't have any problems w/ IR connection to your alptop, or even to Palm devices.

I have exactly the same problem with my Sony Clie TJ35. I can beam files to my IBM Pentium II ThinkPad (Windows 2000 Professional), but not from PC to PDA. I even created a file on the PDA Memo and succesfully beamed it to my PC. Then I erased the Memo from my Clie and beamed the original file back to the Clie - it would not accept the file format! Is the PC doing something to the file format? I have also played with the encoding of the file, but this doesn't work either. The beam appears to proceed normally but the PDA says :unknown file format" after the beaming proces is complete. I have even tried setting the file format in all different modes (txt, doc, rtf). Nothing works. Surely a sinmple text file created on NotePad should eaqsily transfer to the Clie PDA.
If you were succesful in sorting out your issue I would be grateful if you might share your fix with me!

Regards.
