Hello folks!

I recently (well, yesterday) got a 5mx (for free :-) ), and I had a couple of basic questions.

First off, is it possible to change the unit's language? I've got a dutch-language OS running on it at the moment, which I can deal with just fine, but, well, I'd rather have an english one. Is changing the OS language possible? I'm still working my way through manuals, skimming websites, etc. but I haven't been able to find a simple answer to this question.

Second, where's the serial number on these machines? I have it complete in it's box, but no proof of purchase (it was a company favor/gift someone I knew got a few years ago, but never used), and I tried to register at Psion's website (support info, etc.), but without a SN, well, no luck.

That's all for now, and I'll be lurking around for a while, I think, trying to discover what this little gem can do...

Unfortunately, not. This would require replacement by Psion of the ROM chip and possibly also the motherboard.

There should be a label stuck on to the inside of the Compact Flash bay door with the serial number on. There is also normally a yellow card in the box, part of which is sent in to register the machine and the other part retained - this has the serial number on. The box may also have the number which will actually be a combination of numbers and letters.

With regard to changing the language, I don't think you can, as everything is in ROM, but no doubt someone will quickly correct me if I'm wrong there.

As for the machine being a little gem, well, you are absolutely right! :)

Hope you enjoy your voyage of discovery. Plenty of help available here if you need it.
