Given that most or all of us with HPC/Pro Win CE 2.11 machines cannot get a ROM upgrade to HPC 2000 Win CE 3.0....

It's too bad that Microsoft will not port the newer Pocket Internet Explorer 4 to Win CE 2.11 and make it available for download. They did make available for download the Windows Media Player (which is in HPC 2K ROM), so the concept is not so crazy IMHO.

Given it is unlikely we'll see a PIE 4.0 download, why don't we all rally Opera (http://www.opera.com), who makes a great browser for numerous other platforms (including Psion), to port their browser to CE 2.11? If enough of us ask, maybe they will see a market.

Personally, an upgraded browser is the one item I most pine for but I haven't had my Mobilepro 780 nearly long enough to justify ditching it for a new unit.

I've recently been trying to persaude Opera as well. I know a few other pepole from different forums have also been trying.

As yet Opera have not responded to any e-mails that I, or other people, have sent.

But I shall keep trying. FYI I am currently using a Jornada 720

Hi,

Thanks for writing.

I'm afraid a port to Win CE is not a port we are considering doing at the moment.

How about if maybe Netscape were considering making a full featured browser for CE... It might stir up some interest in our current problem. It wouldn't be long and Microsoft would move to block the market. Or maybe not...

Just a thought - perhaps you guys might try lobbying on the newly spruced up Opera forums?
