Anyone considering buying a dell Axim off ebay?

Would dell honor the warranty?

I hate the idea of waiting 4-6wks for one.

thanks for any advice.

Someone in my office bought a 400Mhz off Ebay. Yes Dell will honor the warranty. Most of their work on this issue is based on service tags and such versus owner info. I have a Dell laptop from 2nd hand and Dell fixed the screen under the original warranty.

Get the service tag from the seller and look it up online...
It will tell the Tale.

What exactly will the service tag do for me?

Obviously the service tag info will not match my address etc. So I don't understand what good this info will do?

Thanks for any more infomation.

I bought my 400mhz off ebay a few weeks ago. The final cost for me worked out to be the same as if i had purchased it directly from Dell with the $50 rebate. I think the prices are now going above the cost from Dell as people are realizing the premium on getting one sooner than later.

The seller transfered the warranty (based on the service tag) and it is registered now in my name with a full year from the original purcase. Because of the lag between when the seller purchased (mid-January) and I recieved (early February) I missed having about two weeks on the warranty. But, I would rather loose those two weeks than wait 6 weeks for a unit.

The seller I bought from advertised that it was a brand new unit still in the factory sealed box. And it was. It came in the original Dell shipping box with the Dell tape still sealed.

I noticed that Dell is also selling units directly on eBay. I am assuming that there will be a wait time on those units similar to ordering directly from dell.com

Hope that helps.

By the way, the seller should tell you what the service tag is. Then you can check the website to see when the original limited warranty expires. That is the date that dell will honor, not the date that you actually get the unit.

You will most likely have to ask the seller for the service tag, they don't often volunteer it in the description. It's kind of like asking a used car salesman for the VIN of a used car you are considering.

Yes, I believe Dell will provide an extended warrnty if it were bought on eBay or elsewhere. I sell Dell laptops on eBay and all my customers who opt for their extended warranties can get them directly from Dell with no problem. I would assume it is the same for the Axim. Dell is the only mfg. that I know of that allows their warranty to be passed on from owner to owner. Thanks. :)
