I am sure I saw a post about this issue last night when I searched the forum, but I'll be damned if I can find it now....
I just got a Psion 5mx a couple of days ago and I would like to be able to surf a bit from my home LAN.
Again I am sure you guys have seen this message a ton of times and I aplogize for asking it again. Can you just shove me in the right direction? Maybe an informative post or walk through?
I have a small 8 PC lan set up with a router/dhcp server. I do have the travel modem, but I would rather take advantage of my broadband connection. I don't have the manuals for this PDA as it was a hand-me-down from work, but its mine for good now and I want to make the most use of it.
Any help would be appreciated!
Oh yeah and is Diem, the same Diem from the Chicago Bears boards?

I just found Diem's Faq. I bet my answer is in there.... It seems like it would be a good candidate for a sticky thread here.
hi there,
No, I'm not into sport (unless you consider rock climbing a sport - I personally don't since it is non-competitive), so that other Diem isn't me..
Regarding your actual request, I'm ashamed to say that the info is not (yet) in my FAQ. Its a work in progress, and I haven't updated for over a month now, so as usual there's tons of info I need to add - this included.
There's basically two methods:
- wired using the Psiwin cable and MochaPPP installed on the PC (full guide here: http://home.wanadoo.nl/thomas.vanderzijden/reviews/mocha/mocha.html )
- IR using an IrLAN adapter (this info is in my FAQ ;))
Both require you to set up a PPP connection on the Psion - the URL above includes instructions.

Well I tried Mochasoft, but I can't seem to get a connection. I noticed the set up page did not say anything about WinXp... I also have seen a few things that mention the ras service, any ideas about that?
Sorry, I'm in that not uncommon situation of being aware of how something's supposed to be done, without having done it myself!
There's a 'contact' link near the bottom of that howto URL I posted - perhaps the author could help you?

I've just tried the MOCHA PPP using windows XP and it works. There were a couple of riders that I haven't solved yet.
I had to set the "MOCHa Modem" with the
Terminal detect UNCROSSED
Carrier detect UNCROSSED
It will then always connect no problem using the email system
However, it will not connect via the web browser OPERA (I've got a netbook and 5MX). The psion always reports a "Network Problem"
BUT..... if you connect via the email it will then assuming teh email is still active, allow the browser, Opera, to work no problem at all.
I haven't sorted out teh why and wherefore yet as I've had simillar problems when I use the modems, but thats life.

Mocha PPP works just fine for me (with Win98 or Win2000 - I don't have XP) except for the same problem as here - it refuses to connect via Opera. This has only been the case for me since installation of the most recent netBook OS.
It's a minor annoyance, since there are obvious workarounds as pthwaite has mentioned, so I've decided not to waste time agonising over it. I tend to connect via e-mail or instant messenger, but you could use an app called The Dialer, (http://www.mcaleely.com/freeware/) which can establish connection before you launch anything else.
As for Mocha - I find it can be a little picky about the order in which you do things. First make sure that nothing is active that may try to access the COM port, then launch Mocha before attempting the connection from the Psion. If it fails, close everything and start again.
I haven't tried RAS since Mocha fits the bill for me.

Whaahooo! That was the trick... for some reason, the browser I was using closed the connection, but setting up the email and opening it first let me get online with the browser.
I know it is an easy work around, but that bugs me. I am going to figure out why it closes the connection like that....
But hey! Thanks for all the help. I really appreciate it.
