Should I call Gateway?
Should I call Palm? If so, whats the number
What the hell is it?
Can I get it back (restore)
A) What do I do to solve the problem? Because I can't open many programs.
B) is it palm related?

i think msvcirt.dll is one of the microsoft visual c runtime files, so its not a gateway or a palm problem. its more of a windows problem... what version of windows are you running? is it win 98 or millenium?
its possible the problem was caused by some software installing an older version of the file, or something damaging the file on your PC, you *may* be able to fix it by copying another copy of this file (and msvcrt.dll) to your PC.

I have Windows ME. If I can copy this file , Where would I find it?
I have an old computer that has 95, Would i find it on there?
Would my dads laptop have it?
Thanks,

i think windows ME comes with sfc.exe, this is a program that can restore the file back to the one which came with windows (as long as you have the CD)
if you go to run on the start menu and type 'sfc.exe' hopefully it will find it and it will start scanning your PC. If you update back to the version that came with windows, you may find some newer programs don't work, or if the file is damaged it will replace it with a good version.
the version that comes with palm desktop 4.1 is v6.00.8168.0, so to run this program it needs to be replaced with a copy of this file (or newer)

your windows 95 pc probably has a version of the file that is too old, and your dads laptop, well it depends what version of windows he is running.

it looks pretty much the same problem as you're having.

Providing you have a Gateway, you most likely have Windows ME on the disk they provided you with...this may come in the form of a recovery disk. If you ask them to help you reinstall this file, they should be able to do it-providing they know how. They may try to send you to Microsoft, but considering it's an OEM version of Windows, it should be Gateway's problem to fix anything that goes wrong with the Windows version they provided you with.

ok.....I called Gateway and they said the could give me two phone numbers to recieve customer care @ $1.95/minute.. I told the person the exact error and it took her like ten minutes to get back with me. I do have 3 recovery disks and I tried looking it up on them, but to no success I cannot find a way to Reinstall that driver.
Gateway didn't know how to help me, and I should to it that our warranty is up, but we should still get tech support..
I CAN'T HOTSYNC, I WANT TO HOTSYNC DAMNIT!!!!!!!!!
C:\PALM\HOTSYNC.EXE device attatched to system is not functioning. thats one of the new ones..... I go into that folder and the damn thing is there....whats going on????????????
How do I know if it is safe to install version5. because I haven't synced for two months but i have the archive floder in the PALM folder. even if i do install the new version, does it comes with the PRC file for the palm or is it just the desktop install????

hmmm, at $1.95 a minute, it will probably be cheaper to download the palm desktop, even if it takes longer. This has the file with it and the added benefit of being able to reinstal the whole program. I know its not something you wanted to do, but if you havent got the CD handy to get the file off you may need to download it anyway...
You may be able to get the file singularly though, but I wouldn't know where to start looking.

Try downloading this...it's the Microsoft Libraries Update. This should fix your problem (I'm crossing my fingers).

Here's yet another way to do it...follow the Windows Millennium instructions on this page. Check to see if you have the C:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\INSTALL directory on your computer. If so...follow the instructions and point the restore to this location.

Did you look for the C:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\INSTALL?? Often OEMs store cab files in there for windows installation.
