I am using Mac OS10.1.5 and palm dektop 4.1. Palm Desktop works fine as a stand alone under Mac OSX. yesterday I bought a ATEN serial-usb connector - I also installed the right driver for Mac OSX - and I tried to sync my old palm III (palm OS 3.0) with the palm desktop software 4.1.
My palm would not connect and does not respond. I do not want to buy the expensive mac connection kit from palm to connect serial palm devices to usb desktops. What can I do?? I think I have missed something out somewhere. Please help me! thank you very much in advance...

lorenz:
This may help being that you are running OSX you may still have a version of PDT installed to OS9 if you havn't don't worry .
what you may want to try:
1.disconnect the adapter from the computer
2.open the palm destkop make sure its showing your user name and not user "none"
3.if the user name checks out ok . along the top bar u will see where it says "hotsync" click that
4.click setup
5.disable hotsync feature
6.the next tab over may be "connection settings" or something along the lines of that click that
7. in that list you should see where it shows you current adapter name .. (it should be anything other then local, usb, or palm connect , make sure u have that picked ..
then go back to the hotsync controls and re-enable them
close out of the box plug the adapter back in and attempt a sync
if it doesn't work repeat the steps but instead of only having you adapter name checkd also check "usb"
and try again .
if it doesn't work it may be the adpater
or a bad install of the palmdesktop (even tho it may work perfect when not hotsycning)
adapters i find that work evey time are
belkin
keyspan
and yes the Palm usb adapter (it is a be $$$ but it works and saves headachs . cause with the new purchase of the adapter from palm you will also get free support with the kit to get it up and running .
hope this helps

thank you very much for your reply but I managed to sync my palm III with entourage in the meantime. all of a sudden after downloading an OSX sync suite for the palm to-do's (sorry but don't remember from where :-(() the rest synced without any problems. No idea what the problem was but it works now. so if anyone has the same problems and need my settings for a sync of a palm III with entourage under 10.1.5. just let me know.
thanks again

Just an observation. After installing OSX 10.2.6, my Palm IIIxe (OS 3.5.3) stopped syncing to my G3 PowerBook. I use the Palm Connect USB to serial cable and had no problems prior to the OSX upgrade. I then installed Palm Desktop 4.1; still no syncing. So I followed the instructions from (?) to "lorenz" and behold! problem solved. Specifically, Hotsync Manager listed Palm Connect but only USB was "on". I disabled Hotsync, deselected USB, selected Palm Connect, reenabled Hotsync, and it worked! Thanks, all!
