Hi,

I have a Clie NR70, and after about a month of use, the cover stopped opening smoothly. Now it makes an awful noise when opened because the swivel joints are obviously in need of some lubrication. However, I haven't tried to add anything since I'm concerned that something like
WD40 or vegetable oil might get into the electronics and ruin it. Anyone out there had this problem and have any suggestions? Thanks.

Hi Chrisbg,

I heard a solution to lubrication on this board before the new format came. This guy said his clie squeeked when he opened it from the closed to open state. He too was worried about contamination if he used WD40 so he devised a plan to use string. What he did was apply WD40 to a piece of string and then flossed the joints of the clam shell henge. By doing it that way he limited the ammount of area the WD40 was applied so not to ruin his Clie. After he tried it his Clie no longer sqweeked. A few other people with the same problem tried it and they were able to vanquish the sqweeking as well. This method could help you with your problem. Hopefully it will.

Hi,

I looked at the old board page and found the page with the solution. It was devised by Steply and here is a link to Steply's Solution To Lubrication.

Hope this helps out and remember that Steply should get the credit for this. Thanks Steply.

Very clever idea! It worked just like Steply described. Many thanks to Steply for the solution, and thank you fearlessfozz for passing on this info so quickly! It saved my sanity. :)
