I have purchased a Dell Axim5 (which came within several days of ordering!), have installed on my pc ActiveSync which is working. I have been able to sync the device and the pc and have installed the driveres for and external keyboard. I can copy files from pc to the pocket pc.

The problem that I have encountered is the installation of software. I have downloaded an application from Microsoft, a game (Hearts), which is an .exe file. I follow the instructions by double clicking on the .exe file and get a message that it will copy to the pc and then install on the mobile device. [The games folder is not in the Axim start folder, per instructions] The installation program starts, it creates a folder within the ActiveSync folder [the default folder], then a message appears---"General file transfer error. Please check your target directory. Error Number 2." When I open the ActiveSync folder, a folder has been created for Hearts and within this folder is a DelsL1.isu file, nothing more. When I attempt to install other applications, the same thing happens, sometimes with DelsL1.isu, DelsL2.isu, and DelsL3.isu files within. I have tried to use another destination folder but with the same results.

At first I did have problems with ActiveSync but discovered that ZoneAlarm and Adware were interferring. When I disconnect the cable modem and exit both programs, everything works well in ActiveSync.

I have checked various knowledge bases to no avail. I know that I am new to this, however it seems straight forward. What am I missing?

Here are some articles similar to your problem. Take a look at the articles and see if you made any mistakes in the way you did the install.

Also looks like you might need to UNinstall your failed attempts before trying again. If it were me, I would hard reset and try again.

Good Luck!
