Hooray! Jan Kiszka has done it and we should all thank him! I am now able to use PsiWin to make an infrared connection to my Mako from Windows XP. I presume it will also work from Windows 2000 and with Psion 5MX, Revo etc. No more cables! Download the latest IrCOMM2K Version 2.0.0-alpha5 from www.ircomm2k.de and try it out. A note of caution - this is an alpha version and though it did work - I was able to make a backup, perform synchronisation and transfer files - it did reset Windows Explorer a couple of times while I was doing the initial setup. The only trouble I had was reassigning a COM port to infrared. At first the Virtual Infrared COM port was no. 14 (because for some reason Bluetooth is using about 10 COM ports) and PsiWin did not seem to like such a high number - it simply wouldn't look there. I managed to reassign the Virtual COM to no. 4 and then everything worked fine.
Great - now I can take my laptop and my Revo on the road and leave that bulky docking thingy at home!
If it works for you, email Jan some encouragement and so hopefully he can realise a beta version soon!

there was, but how many people got it to work with PsiWin? No-one, right? Psion admitted there was a bug in PsiWin that prevented it from working with virtual infrared com ports in windows 2000 and xp, but IrCOMM v2 alpha has a work-around built in.

I need some help!
I try to use the latest IrCOMM2K. But it doesn't work correctly.
I've a Win2000, and psion revo.
The IrCOMM2K initial the Virtual Infrared COM port, it was no4.
Is it okay....and is the PsiWIN connection, i checked the com port no4 too.
But the connection not work!
What's the problem?
(In the 'wireless link' property, i checked out the 'image link section')
Thanx:

Definitely IrCOMM2K version 2?
If so, I suggest:
- select only COM4 in Psiwin connection properties, and put it at the top of the list.
- selecting a Baud rate of 57600 on both the Psiwin connection properties and on the Revo.

Hi all
I too had success only after installing the software/patch but now I have problems with normal IR connections to my phone.
Any ideas or workarounds??

You have to install the little taskbar program "IrCOMM2K" (included in the new version) which will enable you to select which mode of infrared comm to use: Automatic, IrCOMM2K, or normal infrared. Chances are you will have to manually select normal infrared (just right click on the icon once the taskbar program is running) to make communications with your mobile phone and then click back to IrCOMM2K when you want to connect to the Psion. I believe the reason for having to make the switch manual is that the automatic mode is not yet working perfectly. Hope that helps!

PS You can put the program in your startup list so that it's loaded every time Windows starts.

Hi
Yes I do have the little icon running however changing it to Standard IR doesnt do the job.
Previously I just need to have my IR activated at the phone and the PC IR automatically detects that a Nokia xxx is within range but now it detects nothing.
Connecting to PSION goes without any problems when I change it to IRCOMM2K - Automatic doesnt do the job tho.
Help please!!

Previously I just need to have my IR activated at the phone and the PC IR automatically detects that a Nokia xxx is within range but now it detects nothing I originally installed my Nokia phone as an IR (IrOBEX?) modem in Win98 and it worked well. I then installed the Nokia again as a "cable connected" modem and the IR modem stopped working. However, the "cable connected" modem did also have the option to connect via a Virtual IR COM port, so I now use this for IR which works.
It does seem that having IrCOMM installed effectively disables IrOBEX, but you should be able to install your Nokia as a "cable connected" modem and set the COM port to the 'Virtual IR Port'.

Hi
Unfortunately my Nokia Connection Manager does not have the option to select IR Com as [art of its 'cable connection' it only shows Com1 and no IR.
Just to let you know I am using a Dell Inpiron 8100 and the IR is default as Com4.
My Virtual IR port is Com6.
Should I change the Virual IR to com4 as there is no way to change it in Dell.

Unfortunately my Nokia Connection Manager does not have the option to select IR Com as [art of its 'cable connection' it only shows Com1 and no IR. What about the PC's normal "Control Panel > Modems" applet - does this not let you select which COM port to connect with and give the option of the Serial port or the Virtual IR port?

Unfortunately I am on XP and while it allows me to get to change the COM port it still did not detect my Nokia.
Changing the IR port to Com6 where the Virtual IR is located didnt do any good either
