hi,
I got my netbook from sita last night, _very_ nice apart from one thing, the main reason I got a netbook.....network adapters.

So I got out a load of ethernet pcmcia cards I have, of course non of them worked (well I dont think so I got lots of "unable to write to host" messages from finger.

I notice there only seems to be a couple of drivers installed by default. mostly for psion dacom gold card. However, this card is outragously expensive (200 UKP from dabs, more than I payed for the psion itsself). Is it possible to install other drivers for other cards and where do I get them from?

I notice that diem's site has a table of usable cards, has anyone tried any of these on the mBook? If so How do I fiddle the settings to get them to work?

basically, who what where when and why?!?!?

If people post adapters they have got working (wired and wireless) I'll put a page togther about usable hardware for the mBook.

Cheers
Caius

Hello Bean,

I just got a wireless LAN card from Sita. They are running some wireless LAN promotion and I got an Access Point + 2 Cisco Cards at RM700. They have posted it on their web for USD193.

The access points are brand new (in original packaging) but the Cisco cards do not come in packaging - not sure whether they are ex-demo units. But it works really good and has made me a very, very happy person.

Sita's virtual shop is www.sitashop.com

Chow.

Hi all,

I've split this thread since it was trending well away from Bean's initial questions - the new thread is in the 'Modems..' forum at this URL:

To answer your questions bean:

No, you cannot install any other ethernet drivers. Thus if you want a wired card, only the Psion Dacom or CombineIT models are supported. Since both these product lines are now discontinued, grab one from Expansys whilst you can!

A greater range of WiFi cards is supported, since here it is the chipset that counts, not the brand.

As far as 'fiddling with the settings to get them to work' is concerned, if you have a supported card then it'll just work - no fiddling required!

The thread mentioned above is well worth reading - these very wired LAN cards available at VERY low prices!
