If anyone wants to replace the batteries on the 4500 or 4600 for less than $15.00.
I just replaced my "A" NiMH batteries with new ones, from http://www.batteriesamerica.com/
HR-AU (new) A 1.2V 2700 mAh $5.95
I removed the thermal fuse. I did this on mine and my sons. My sons worked fine, but I damaged the 10k Diode Resistor on the ribbon of mine. Bought a pack of 6 resistors for $.97 at Radio Shack. Now it works better than it did new. I have digital pictures of the process.

I found someone who sent me a Word document spelling out the process with pictures.

I concur that it works far better than before.
