I bought a new notebook with XP and office 2002 and wanted to sync. all my 500-something e-mails on my mc218 with Outlook. I first installed the old Ericsson software which worked but not with the sync. function. Afterwards I donwloaded the newest PsiWin version from Psion's homepage and tried it again. And then it all went a..-shit.

Now I cannot use my Message program on the mc218 (it says Information Corrupt) even after a soft reset. And everytime I try to open Outlook on the notepbook it tells me that something in an Ericsson folder causes problems (I uninstalled Ericsson's Epoc Connect before installing PsiWin). It tells me that a DLL file might be missing.

Has anyone experienced similar things? Help wanted!

Jeppe

First thing to do is to completely uninstall all Ericsson and Psion software. To do this, run whatever uninstaller is supplied (Add/Remove Programs..), and then download and double-click the Psiwin registry cleaner from the Series 5mx page of Mike McConnell's site (www.mikemcc.net).

At this stage, check whether Outlook works again.

On the MC218, email is stored in the C:\System\Mail folder - delete the contents here and the Message app should work again.

Once Outlook and the MC218 work, you're ready for the next stage; getting sync to work. I have a PDF written by Psion that explains this at home that I'll post on a subsequent message; in the meantime install Psiwin 2.3.3, and download the 'email sync update 1.15' from myPsion (www.psion.com/myPsion/Login.asp) and install it.

I'll post again later on; bear in mind that all these instructions are valid for a Series 5mx - there may be differences in the MC218 that render these instructions unusable

It does - if you did a backup before starting this whole process, then you can try restoring it to recover those emails.

If you are prepared to fiddle with things a bit, have a look in the backup folder structure on your PC, and you could simply copy the contents of that folder (not convert, obviously) back onto the Psion rather than do a complete restore.
