Does anyone know if there is a downloadabe 'Notepad' for the Clie T 615 that will hotsync with the version that now appears on the new Desktop V4.1?
Thanks!

The NotePad app on the handheld is in ROM and cannot be downloaded.

Thanks for the info re: Notepad. It would have been nice to have the program on the Clie. But, certainly not worth trading a 615 for a Palm Pilot.

Notepad can be beamed to a Clie (or any palm using OS 3,5 or up; had it on my IIIc, but the digitiser is slow there) from a Palm that has it through the application called "Filez". You have to beam multiple files, but it is fairly selfevident. I started with a M100, passing it on to the IIIc and recently to a T625. Good luck!

Palm had me fooled. They list it as a ROM enhancement.
Thanks for the information. I looked and there it is 56k. Live and learn.

Let me get this straight. If you have a Palm Pilot which has the 'Notepad' program on it you can beam it to the Clie. However, It cannot be downloaded from any other source i.e. Handmark, Handango, etc?

The Note Pad was part of the 4.1 OS upgrade and Desktop Upgrade. It is not technically a seperate application.

Sorry, new PDA user here. How does the Notepad differ from the Memo Pad? I have the latter on my 615C, of course, but not the former. Is it worthwhile pursuing? What features/advantages does Notepad have over the Memo Pad?

Thanks!

Elaine,
Note Pad allows you to write directly on the screen in your natural hand. The Screen has scroll for longer notes and is taken to the desktop by conduit where it will also appears in your natural hand.

If you really want to get a sketching program, there are a few million of them out there, just find one you like(palmgear.com recommended), remap the buttons in prefs/buttons, and presto!
You can't hotsync any that I know of, but if you use a backup program, there ya go.

I tried the "Filez" method and it worked perfectly! Now I have "notepad" in ROM on my 665 and it syncs with desktop 4.1.
Thanks a bunch "hcamstra" for the information.

As PDASRock points out there are many other ways to accomplish similar actions to that offered by NotePad. In NotPad's favor are scrolling and the Desktop availability.
One of my faviorite apps is DiddleBug (palmgear.com) it allows for some nice variation in value and texture of your "drawing."

Do I understand correctly that the only way to install the notepad application is to beam it from another PDA? How did it get there in the first place?

Well, the older versions of p. os, didn't have note pad, they had memopad instead(although the new ones have both), so if you can find a newer unit(os 3.5+) get an application that will beam locked apps(combiner is my favorite), then presto! Change the button bindings in prefs, and there you go!

Bif,
Yes,
You emailed me for clarifiaction and I told you the steps.
Get "Filez 5.2" (freeware) and install it on another unit for beaming. Beam all THREE, Notepad and then the next TWO sub cats. If you can't find filez5.2, please email me again and I'll send it to you as attachment,

reply to: "how did it get there in the first place"": Notepad is included in OS 4.0 and up (not 3.5, though it works under 3.5 - just. By nature of the beast you need a rather fast processor).
I'm not entirely sure that copying an application to another machine is legal in all countries, but then again they do not offer it seperately so I consider this to be an upgrade.

PS: does anyone know a way to introduce colors in Notepad? In a simpler way then Clié Paint?
