Does anyone know where to purchase (if available) screen protectors for the 7xx line? I have a 780, and I'm looking to get a protector, or even something I can use (cut to size, if necessary) as one.

Thanks,
Anthony

I just got a MobilePro 790 and was looking for the same thing. I found a company called NuShield (http://www.nushield.com/) that has them. The screen protectors for the MobilePros aren't listed under "products" on their site, but if you go to "buy" they are listed there.

According to their site, the screen protectors are of the non-adhesive, "slide under the edge of the screen" type. I only just ordered some today, so I haven't seen them for myself yet.

Brainiac,

Thanks for your response! I found some after I posted, too. Similar type (non-adhesive), scratch-resistant material. Go to www.pdascreenprotectors.com for more info.

2 protectors were $13.95 + a reasonable $3.00 shipping.

I'll let you know how these are when they come in. THere were very good reviews, but I always have to see for myself. :)

Thanks,
Anthony

Thanks for the link to the other screen protectors - I'll be interested to hear how they work, I might like to try them, too. I'll let you know how it goes with the NuShield ones.

Brainiac,

I received my screen protectors the other day (pack of two was about $16.00 after shipping). They seem to work pretty well--they display dust and fingerprints like crazy, and it slips around a bit, too. Due to the slippage factor, I'll have to say that I don't recommend that you go out and buy 'em right away, unless you're looking for something inexpensive.

The Pros:
Covers the whole screen well, seems to protect well. I've only had it a few days, but I have played solitaire, which I avoided before so my screen didn't get scratched dragging cards, and I haven't seen any scratches on the protector.

Cons:
As noted on mfr.'s site, if you install and get even dust specs between the screen & protector, you can really see them. Usually doesn't affect what it looks like when screen is on, but I thought I'd note it. The most annoying issue I have with these protectors is that it moves around. It's not the "sticky" type of material (like the "Fellowes" brand PDA protectors), it's more like the ones Casio used to (maybe still do) produce for their Cassiopeia line. Unlike the ones from Casio, however, these don't have any "ridges" or clips at the edges to catch the edge. It's just a flat piece of plastic that you slide under the edges of the screen. They claim that it "stays in place" once installed, but that is not the case. I've had it 3 days now, and I've had to re-situate it about 10 times now. It slides out from the sides, slides down from the top, and is really difficult to get back under the panel (especially on the "long" side of the screen, top & bottom).

It does the job, but you'll be putting it back in place a lot. My overall rating is 3 of 5 stars. Not highly recommended.

Anyone else find any good protectors? I may just go buy some laminating material and make my own....

-Anthony

ADDED:
Also, I forgot to mention--the screen protector is so thick that even after changing the sensitivity for my touch-screen, it still doesn't respond all the time. This plus the sliding means that the entire protector is often "dragged" across your screen (which can't be good), when you are dragging and dropping anything sideways. And, you have to pound on it to get a double-tap to work.

Anthony,

I received the NuShield screen protectors some time ago, but haven't been able to try them on my MobilePro because it's been in for repair. :(

What I can tell so far: They come attached to a backing that you remove before installation - this is to keep the side that faces the screen clean. They aren't quite rectangular, instead they are slightly taller in the middle than they are at the sides. The instructions say that this is to form "tabs" that you tuck under the plastic around the screen. I'm not sure how well this will hold the protectors in place, I guess we'll see when I'm able to try them. I'll post more then...

I finally got one of the NuShield screen protectors installed on my MobilePro, and it seems to work fine. I think they make the screen look just slightly darker, because they aren't perfectly clear, but the difference isn't much. I haven't had any trouble with the proctector slipping, although I'm not sure if that's due to the protectors or due to the plastic around my screen having a tight fit. So far the protector hasn't shown any scratches that I've noticed. It may take a little more pressure for the screen to recognize a tap through the protector, but the difference is small enough that I'm not completely sure. Overall, I'm pretty pleased with the NuShields.

I found a source of protectors that I am using for my Toshiba E-310, NEC 770 and Magellan GPS unit. The price is hard to beat - $10 - and they work real well.

The website is http://www.bobulrich.com/pda.htm

He offers a Money Back Guarantee so it is a no lose option to see if you like them.

Hope this helps

As I mentioned in my original posting - I just purchased whatever vaugely handy item that happens to be overly packedged at Costco (or that type of store).
I set the "purchase" aside and focus on the packing.
I make sure the smooth, clear, hard plastic package is just the right thickness. I trace the screen of my MP 770 and add about 1/4" all around.
Warp the new protector a bit and it eases in under the edges.
It doesn't seem to jiggle around, in fact I forget it's there.
I do notice that you must tap a little harder. Not too much tho.
It does scratch eventually but you just swap it with another.

I'll keep trying to find just the right clear wrapping and will post the product it happens to come with. Hopefully something useful.
cheers,

Somone I talked with awhile back suggested mabey using the clear plastic sheets that are used on overhead projectors (like they use in schools) cut it just a bit larger than the screen so it will slip it under the plastic edge and there you go!!. I havent tried this but it seems like an inexpensive solution to me

:D

I cut a piece of plastic using a paper cutter. I cut it to 7 3/4 inches wide by 3 1/2 inches. It slides in from the bottom first and then the top...it works perfectly.

What I used for the plastic was a plastic report folder, one of those type that are clear plastic that you insert the paper in between and then slide the colored spine clamp over it to hold the papers in place. The plastic itself is a soft type plastic, really thin, and I bought them at Walmart. They cost $1.97 for 5 of them, and the number on the price tag was 03 22 02. Each cover will make about 4 of the screen protectors, so I ended up with 20 for less than $2.

And, the pressure I have to exert is neglibible....Rich
