Check your rebate status!!

I just checked on the status of my rebate, which I mailed on Jan 2. The website that Dell directs you to - rebatestatus.com indicated that my rebate was declined because my request was postmarked on 2/17/2003. I called the toll free number on the bottom of the rebate form and was asked to fax over the packing slip and rebate request form. I was told by the rep that I spoke to that I was the second call he had taken today wiht the same problem and speculated there was a data entry problem (this is a Dell contractor), as his screen clearly showed that the postmark was 1/2/03. The 2/17 date was the date that they handled the request.

So - keep copies of everything and check the status if you have not heard. And do not take no for an answer if it is not appropriate!

I had forgotten about it. I just checked the site, and the screen says that my $50 was mailed February 13.

So fortunately I didn't experience the same problem.

Dell Home Services, who were handling my rebate are clueless. I followed up yesterday. They told me that the previous advise they furnished was wrong, in fact they said that the person that gave it to me was "full of s_ _ _" - yes that is a quote. They then turned me on to Dell, of course they gave me the wrong phone number. Finally, Dell took care of it, giving me a credit back to the credit card I used to pay for the Axim in the first place. It worked out in the end, but was painful getting there!

I'm having a different problem. I got a card saying my packing slip did not "demonstrate purchase of the product required for the rebate".

Their web site told me no record was found. Their 866 voice system told me the same bull about the packing slip. Their 866 person (who was very nice) told me the same story but had no access to any records. She told me to send in a copy of the non-demonstrating packing slip which I have done.

I sent a simple letter to them with the copy (why not see if stupid works) but a blistering letter to Dell. I'll let you know what happens.

I am torn between IPaq 1910 which is so small and elegantly designed and Dell Axim 5 with 400MHz processor. But with the rebate, I might get the Dell though it is bulky and all . . . but FAST!
