Thanks for all your help - I now own a Palm m125. But.....the software in the box wasn't quite right - I got 2 bonus software disks and no disk for the Desktop software. So I went to the www.palm and downloaded the desktop software. All seemed well until I tried to HotSync. I can't seem to get the right com settings. And the palm says the port is already in use. Aaaaarrrrggggghhhh! I know this isn't my forte, but I thought Palms were supposed to be easy! I will happily accept any and all advice you have to offer!

Reinstall the Desktop.

That's weird that you got the wrong CD. I have never heard of that.
A quick reinstall should definitely solve the problem. If it doesn't try doing a soft reset on your Palm.
Good luck.

Did you reboot your computer before trying to use the Palm Desktop? This time I agree with Ebisix and Palmboy... re-install the Palm Desktop. When you restart the computer check the Hotsync manager (from desktop)and see what the connection settings are, make sure they are correct.

If it's telling you the COM port is already in use, I'll bet it's set up for a serial connection. Right-click on the HotSync Manager icon in your Windows "tray" at the bottom right of your screen and make sure "Local USB" is checked.
