Screen does not work in "tablet" mode

I am in need of help. As a usual practice I use my Clie in tablet mode (with the screen folded down flat) - tonight the screen does not display in the mode and is blank.

If I flip the screen up everything works well but when I change the screen to tablet mode the message HOLD comes on and the screen goes black.

The HOLD button is not on and it does work fine if I have the screen up.

Help, what is possibly wrong.

It just gets worse, I performed a soft reset now the screen just comes up white with a black section - in all modes tablet and with the screen up.

Well it is seems that either :

You have a hardware problem ---> back to Sony

Software/installation big problem ----> try the hard reset. If that does not work than you are sure it is hardware related. Try and let me know.

Thank you for the information, it must be hardware related I cannot even perform a hard reset - it appears to have just died on me..:(

This happened to mine. I know what the problem is and how to fixit....

There is a very small switch in the "twist hinge" that tells the Clie whether the display is twisted to tablet, or closed. When closed, to save battery power it goes to "hold" the same as flipping the "hold" switch on the side of the clie. This turns off the display and locks the buttons, but leaves whatever program is running active and the clie is "on" (for like playing MP3's....)

I REPLACED the switch in mine, has worked fine for months...
