I went to use my palm the other day, and it was 'dead'. I thought maybe it needed a charge, so I put it in it's charging cradle. The green light came on the cradle, but it is still dead. I did a soft reset, and then a hard reset. still dead. Can anyone offer any suggestions on what I need to do next?

Thanks, Kathy:(

Have you checked that the contacts on the Vx are squeaky clean, especially (number from right to left face down) - 2 and 10. Apparently, the charge led is actually sensed off of a different contact!
If that does not solve things, the battery may have died. How was the backlight prior to the unit failing - problems here drain the battery flat!

Quote from Palm support, not sure if this is what you have already done...

If you have charged your handheld in the HotSync cradle for 3 hours and it does not power up, try performing a soft reset while the Palm V series handheld is seated in the cradle. To do this:

On the back of your handheld, locate a small hole labeled "reset". This is the reset button for your handheld.

Place the handheld in the HotSync cradle and look for the green light, indicating a proper connection between the cradle and the handheld.

With the handheld still in the HotSync cradle, use the reset tip tool*, or the tip of an unfolded paper clip (or similar blunt object), to gently press the button inside the hole. Do not use a sharp object or use excessive force.

If the reset is successful, you should see a welcome screen followed by the general preferences screen.

Let your handheld charge in the cradle for 3 hours. Again, make sure that the green cradle light is on when attempting to charge your handheld. If after 3 hours, your handheld still fails to power on, you will want to have your Palm handheld repaired. See the Repair Information section for details on obtaining service for your Palm handheld.

* The metal stylus that comes with your handheld has a reset tip inside. To use it, unscrew the metal barrel from the stylus quill.

If in fact there is a problem with the unit, then there are plenty of companies which effect repairs (depends on how much you are willing to part with) ********hightech.bigstep.com/homepage.html for stateside repairs may be the best bet, or if brave enough, getting parts from them and performing it yourself.
Keep us posted on how you get on, good luck

Try pushing the contrast button on the top, upper left of the V(x).
This sometimes sticks and renders the unit useless. After I had this problem, I finally found someone at tech support who knew about it and said it was common with V(x)'s. It cured my problems.

Good luck.
